So BEWs are showable! That is good to know. All of the online information I can find is all really old. I also adore the blue eyes. She is only 2 months right now, but you are right I shouldn't assume they will droop. One was dropped most of yesterday. I saw the perfect BEW for her, he was a...
So I was considering a BEW as that would be better for pet sales. But if I am looking to target 4h or shows then they shoud be non-carriers right? Problem is if her mate is non-carrier, it will be hard to tell which off springs are non and which are vc.
So I guess my question is if I got her a...
Old thread, but lots of great knowledge on here!! Wondering if anyone is still on and can guide me. I understand the basics of VC/VM, BEW and Non-Carrier... I got a girl who will be of age in April... thinking of breeding her, maybe. What would be her best possible mate? BEWs are not show...
Not sure I will, just exploring my options. Shows sound fun!
Mom is a Tri-color Doe, Dad is a Blue Tort VM Buck...
Should she be breed with another VC/VM? BEW? or Non-Carrier?
I know how the trait breeds out and works, I am just wondering from experience of others, what would be the best...
Yes that is the plan, I have 4 drakes and 2 females. My other group of 6 already has a drake too. So the ratios were off anyways. The broken leg is a male. But I figure rather then do one at a time, mine as well just get the whole system going once and be done with it for the year. Snow is coming!
interesting about the feed, but makes since!
I think I might have lucked out with the molt as I am seeing little white feathers everywhere I assumed that ment molting for them? They tend to run as a giant blob and push eachother over, and I think that is how the first broken leg must have...
I have a friend from Jamaica who loves to eat chicken feet. I should ask him about duck feet, good point! between, meat, broth, compost, feathers for fish lure and decorations and the dog hopefully I can use each piece! I will keep a knife sharpener handy too, that is good advice. My husband...
Thank you so much, this is great advice!!
I will look into Durvet's B complex as well. I have read about that, but thought that because they are on purinas duck feed, it would supply what they needed. I switched them from chickstarter a few days after I got them for fear of this. Knowledge is...
Background: I got some Pekin Ducks from TCS. They were desperate to get rid of the 2 week old's, and gave me 6 for $2. I am now thinking they were Jumbos. They are 10 weeks old, Huge and are having issues with their legs.
We ended up with 2 girls and 4 boys, so we new the culling process would...
I have not put the chicks out the past 3 days as it has been cold and raining, and theyre not to thrilled with me! lol but the ducks are doing great!! and the chicks enjoy their day trips out to the pen when its sunny. Sunday I will set up a crate in the coop houses so they can sleep in there...
First day was a success. my confirmed drake tried to push one of the new girls and her sister defended her. Now the olders run when the youngers approach. Had them sleep in their tote in the basement last night and put them back out this morning. Once we finish the enclosed run I will keep them...
I have 6, 8 week old pekins. 2 are females (they quack), one is male (curled feather) the other 3 sound male, but have no curled feather yet so I am not sure... I will only be keeping 1 pekin drake, as that would make for 2 drakes to 7 females (total), which is a higher ratio then I wanted and I...
