Flowers that grow well in clay soil?

We live in Cali- zone 9a. Lotsa clay. My front yard has roses, sages, irises, sunflowers, hollyhocks, verbena, salvias, lavendar, agaves, sweet peas, succulents... butterfly bushes go crazy out here... basically, anything "drought resistant". In wine barrel halves I "hide" my herb garden in the...

    Experimental Garden. Will Anything Grow?

We have similar soil in my area of California. In the summer, we can get up to 118. 🤬 I've got 3 compost tumblers, and put tons of weeds (that arent for chicken treats) and any garden waste in them, along with coffee, paper, chicken poop, leaves, spent beer, etc in them. I trim and lay (WELL...

Sapphire Gem Brahma Roo - Redding CA - Boo

This ad is for ONE chicken/rooster named Boo. Hatched May 17th, 2024. He's 4 months old today (9/17) and is as big as our grown hens. His mom is a sweet Brahma. His dad is a Sapphire Gem. We thought we kept only female babies, but this guy snuck through our"sexing" screening. (Wishful...

Two Saphire Gem/Black Austrolorpe Cockerels: Gannon and Eeyore ~ in need of new homes - Shasta County/Redding, California

Darker one is named Gannon, Jr. He looks *just* like his dad at this age, who we were forced to rehome in late May due to city restrictions. (See pic 6 for how he'll look full grown). Junior was hatched June 10th so he's 12 weeks old. He just started using his "big boy" voice a couple days ago...

Pullet or Roo? 14 week Light Brahmas

They all look girlie to me. I have a mixed Brahma, hatched May 22nd that I'm still on the fence about... ;) Hoping due to the "mix" the bigger comb might be from the dad... feathering is all girl... Fingers crossed! Our original Brahma girl just died after we hit 120 for days. We had to rehome...

Probably all boys... barnyard mix, 10 weeks

Pic 1- Gannon (coloring and comb say "yes", but my kiddo is thinking no saddle feathers/round neck feathers mean girl) Pic 2- 2 white chickens... the speckled one on the left is the same as Pic # 4. More plain whitie is in pic #3 Pic #5 -- the one in front, we THINK might've just crowed... so...

Boop - 11 week old RI Blue Brahma mix- Redding, CA

See, that’s what I was thinking! But 5 people on here said it’s a Roo. Nobody wants him/her so I’ll keep it til it crows. I hope you’re right! It’s one of my favorite babies!

Boop - 11 week old RI Blue Brahma mix- Redding, CA

According to other BYC peeps, this baby is a boy. He is super sweet and beautiful! Hatched May 22, 2024. Neighbors already called the city on us for his dad, so I am trying to find him a good home before he decides to crow! I'll be sad to see this little buddy go, but if it is to a good home who...

    Silkie Cemani cross

We hatched a couple from a ayam cemani mama & a silkie rooster. Here’s what we got. Ha. She’s got feathered feet, cheeks & a beard, but lacks the head floof. Currently have a couple in the incubator to see what we might get next time. 😊

10.5 week old Brahma mix - pullet or roo?

Here's another I have a question about. It was hatched June 20th, so just over 5 weeks old... It's hatchmates don't have combs at all. But, we have austrolorpes, amberlinks, production blues & brahmas and they all develop differently. I really like this buddy, too. I am starting to think if I am...

I was afraid of that. Boo. Hopefully, we can rehome it easily, as he's a gorgeous bird. Thanks.

10.5 week old Brahma mix - pullet or roo?

Hi there, We have a 10.5 week old chicken that is so pretty, I am hoping it's a hen. (Our neighbors turned us in for our roosters a few months ago, so we hatched out a batch to keep some of their babies.) The bird in question is a Brahma/Production Blue (black austrolorpe/RIR mix). We are HOPING...
