Getting the chicks to go back into the coop.

I have the same problem. My new chicks refuse to go into the coop at night . The older girls, no problem from day one. Not sure the issue. I find them under the coop all bundled together. I will even place them inside the coop and night and watch them settle down, and later I find them...

    cleaning the coop

Do not use the pool DE. It's heated and it changes the shape of the diatoms. I just simply spread it around. They kick it all over. I also use it to kill ants too.

Help sexing wyandotte chickens- 2 weeks on update

The black birds in the front are astrolps (sp) the other one looks like a cockerel but does not have the tail feathers as mentioned. It also has larger legs than the others so it makes me lean cockerel. It will either crow or lay.I know.

    Deep litter

Deep method is the best. I have anywhere from 4 to 8 girls and use up to 8 inches of pine bedding I get from TSC. Lasts up to a year and I have a poop deck for them when they roost.

Decreased Egg Production Even WITH Supplemental Lighting??

We reduced our flock when a few died from old age, but the remaining girls were laying well. We even had one of the older easter eggers start producing after the new ones started to lay. Now we have had zero eggs in 2 months. The one reason I can see is that they did not molt at the same time...

I used the plans that were available on the Purina website. Yes it was 4 years ago and I'm sure finding the plans might be tough. Its basically a 4 X 4 X 4 box with a roof. I did not stay with the plan past that point. I highly modified the plan to fit my needs, including making the...

Why won't my chickens lay eggs ?

Well, all of a sudden we noticed one egg, dark brown, so thinking the youngest bird, the cuckoo started. The next day nothing, but noticed the old Easter Eggers starting to nest and then the telltale sign of the egg song. Then one blue egg and another brown from the Buff. Then we noticed two...
