Cuckoo Marans not laying at twenty four weeks

Hi, everyone! Just checking to see if some breeds start laying later than twenty weeks. My six Cuckoo Marans pullets are hanging out with the rest of my flock, hens who are laying eggs regularly. I thought it might be timing of the year as they hit twenty weeks a few weeks back but the days are...

How much peeping is too much peeping?

Hi everyone, this morning I received a new batch of chicks. This is my first time using a brooder heating plate and I know that more peeping means unhappy chicks. There are a few who are consistently peeping, even when under the plate. How quiet should chicks be? I think using this new...

What did you do in the garden today?

I’m in 6b in the Connecticut river valley. I’m most aggressive with my German Johnson seedlings. They’ve been transferred to their Solo cups and growing/hardening on uncovered tables outside for a little over a week. They are growing fast with evening temperatures in the forties. They get one...

(Content Warning) What Killed Our Hen?

My experience is limited to dogs, foxes, raccoons, and raptors. Raptors leave very few feathers. Dogs are the clumsiest. They leave feathers everywhere.

Neighbor's Chickens Trying to Join My Flock

Your neighbors are at best poor chicken guardians; at worst they are slovenly, cretinous slobs. You can maintain your “good” relationship with them or help out their unfortunate flock. Not both. Call them out or put a call out for them.
