Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

My Mom was a health food nut, so we got nothing but the dark leafies. She still grumbles if she gets something at a restaurant with iceberg.

It depends on the lettuce. Iceberg is pretty much worthless nutritionally speaking. Romaine is actually high in Beta Carotene/Vitamin A, Vitamin K and has calcium and folate (a b vitamin). Some of the darker green lettuces have similar nutritional profiles.

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Thanks! That's good to know. I actually have shade cloth. My neighbor is actually a really nice guy, and we always try and help each other out whenever possible, with whatever issues either of us might have.

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Thanks! My gosh, you seemed to have encountered all sorts of complex issues. I'm glad you are here, as your posts are really educational. My neighbor is actually a good egg, so I might talk to him and ask him to take that light down, or at least put up a motion sensor, so it's not on all...

I'm not sure how to do that without sacrificing ventilation.

Does anyone know how to get notifications? I didn't get any notifications for any of the posts (hence the delay in responding). I thought y'all were just blowing me off.

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Oh my gosh. I wouldn't have the heart to do that, unless the vet told me 'she'll die if you don't.'

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Unfortunately my neighbor keeps his side door light on all night and it's enough light to flood their coop. : (

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Thanks. I hope that will be the case. My one runner duck that was laying like mad until she molted, over 365 days later, was laying lots of soft shelled eggs. I suppose I am worried the same will happen to Selah. I am also worried, as her egg shells are thinning, despite shoveling in the...

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

I wish tomatoes, peas and lettuce were on that list. That's all they like to eat!

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

My ducks follow a similar schedule, but the blacked out coop will be difficult for me, since my neighbor keeps the lights in his yard on all night. I could ask him if he would be willing to install a motion sensor light (more effective against crime anyway), which would darken the area much...

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Thanks Isaac. I think I'll start giving her calcium citrate on a daily basis. Eventually she will molt (has not done so yet) and I will likely stop laying then. Until then, I'm not sure if I can make the environmental changes (complete darkness), as my neighbor keeps his porch light on all...

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

Thanks. That's too bad. She is healthy and happy now. I'm just wondering if it will affect her health in the future. I'm hoping that eventually she'll molt and take a break, which is what my other duck did. Should I be giving her supplemental calcium? (Calcium citrate) Her egg shells are...

Make it stop! My duck won't take a break from laying eggs

One of my Welsh Harlequin ducks, Selah, has been laying continuously since July of 2019. She has laid an egg a day since that date and I am concerned that all that egg-laying, without rest, is not good for her body. I've noticed her egg shells are getting thinner and thinner, despite that...

Duck opening and closing bill and making rasping sounds

Yes, my runners will cross to the other side of the water/food bowls to peck my Welshies away. It's driving me nuts. It especially drives me nuts, as one of my runners, Fiore, used to be bullied like that by one of my drakes (until I re-homed him). The oppressed becomes the oppressor! I...
