    ISO: Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks

Looking for Ameraucana chicks (or hatching eggs will do) that can be shipped to Missouri. Looking for great egg color and a little on the heavier side (the weight of the chicken). Thank you!

DIY make your own original nesting boxes! What do yours look like? Post your pics here!

Are those Marans in those nesting boxes? We're building our Marans coop and wanted to do bucket nesting boxes but weren't sure if those were going to be big enough for them. But your buckets look great and your girls look comfortable!

    Marans using bucket nesting boxes

Hello! We're in the process of building our "Marans only" chicken coop. I'm considering using 5 gallon buckets as nesting boxes but I know how big Marans can get... do you think they would be able to fit inside of a 5 gallon bucket nesting box or should I go with the classic box style nesting...

BCM chicks 3-4 weeks old and question about feather colors...

I'm glad you posted this! I recently bought 7 chicks, a mix of Blue Marans, Black Marans and BCM. They're 3 weeks old now and one or two are starting to show brown feathers and was getting concerned that maybe these chicks weren't what they said they were. But it looks like that's not the case

    Broody Hen Thread!

The problem is that she's in the nest (on the upper right side) and the brooder is that thing with the two screened door. I don't think I can put a ramp up to the nest because it'll be too steep for the chicks. I think I'll have to move them to that brooder tonight

    Broody Hen Thread!

Help! My broody hen just hatched 3 chicks this morning but the nest is 4 feet high so obviously she can't raise them there. i need to move them to their brooder, when is the best time to do this? I'd move them now but there's no telling if she's done hatching... should I wait until night time to...

    Broody Hen Thread!

We have a broody hen that is due to hatch tomorrow or the day after. This is her first time going broody and our first time with a broody hen! We had a little hiccup last weekend, we went off her nest to stretch her legs and when she came back someone else was in her nest, so our broody hen...

Ideal fertility rate before setting eggs

I have a question about incubating my own eggs: This past weekend we culled one rooster, leaving us with 2 roosters and 12 hens. Before we culled him this past weekend, we had a fertility rate of 50%. I'm going to check again this weekend to see if there's any change in fertility now that...

Has anyone had any experience with Chicken Scratch Poultry in McLeansboro, IL?

For those of your that have Marans from CSP, how is their egg production? I've heard that Marans aren't very frequent layers but wanted to get your opinion on CSP's Marans. We really want to get into Marans but not if they have an extremely low lay rate.

What kind of breed is this?! I must have it.

Has anyone seen this photo before? What kind of breed is this? I actually sent a message to the photographer and she replied that it's a RIR to which I replied, ma'am... I don't think so! Any thoughts? http://www.flickr.com/photos/joceykinghorn/4914358733/in/set-72157624777658124

My Charolett (she is a Wyanadotte) has finally started laying but......

Try putting a decoy egg in the nesting box. Use a golf ball, plastic egg, wood egg, basically anything that resembles a real egg and put in in the box until she starts getting the idea!

    rooster chaos!

Since we're going into the colder months and we're already backed up with so many projects at the farm I don't think making a bachelor pad will be feasible until next spring. I'm either going to get rid of our BO mix (don't really want to breed him since I don't know what he's mixed with) or get...

    rooster chaos!

Well, we got sold two buff orpington roos, making our count 4 roos (wyandotte, BO, EE and silkie) and 11 hens (1 wyandotte, 7 BO, 2 EE and 1 silkie). Our EE is clearly the alpha, he crows and goes after any roo that is being rough on his ladies. The past few days he's had his eyes set on the...
