I've heard that retrofitting a shed can be messy and ventilation is tricky. I'd be all for it, but as I said above, we don't have much spare time to work on a new build right now. If it were just minor additions/adjustments we might be able to swing it.
The only reason I prefer prefab is that we've got two very small children and precious little time to build or retrofit anything at the moment.
Also, as I forgot to mention, we already have a smaller run and coop within the bigger run, and our new 5 chickens have 'adopted' that for sleep rather...
I should have clarified, the 56 inches wide x 72 inches tall is also the dimension of the opening to the run where we would be putting a new coop.
I can see us possibly closing the gate to close off groups if needed, but we actually also have a smaller enclosed run and coop inside the big one...
This might be a long shot, but here we go..

My last hatch (which included their father) was 5 years...

I'm convinced roo for #5. Reddening comb, thick legs (not pictured). Jury's still out on the others.
I know this photo is far from ideal! I'll try and get some better ones soon.
From left - #1, 2 and 4 are 6 week old feed store Ameraucanas, brought home as babies. They claim "90% hen" but we know how that goes.
#3 and #5 are 5 week old Jersey Giant/olive egger hatched at home.

Hello! I recently moved out to the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains (CA Bay Area) and I'm in the process of getting ready to build a coop and take some chicks home. I've had chickens before - 3 hens in a suburban backyard coop. My biggest concern is predator-proofing the coop, and dealing...
