We have a thermometer to check the brooder temp and it has been between 80-90. The brooder is in the garage so during the day the ambient temp gets close to 90 therefore with the heat lamp on it gets quite hot. We lost two very small chicks so I was thinking they got too hot. They would not move...
I don't see any poop and they are kind of huddled in the corner where the brooder is at about 82 degrees. They don't stay under the lamp but see to move more when it is off. Is it bad to turn it off during the day and on at night?
They are eating medicated chick food and getting well water because we live in the country. They are in a brooder my son in law made which is in the garage. We feed and water them twice a day and clean the brooder frequently. We lost two and now one of the largest and healthiest ones is sick.
I am wondering since it is about 85-90 outside here in california if I can't just turn of the heat lamp completely. Would they get to cold then? So worried about them.
Hi everyone it is nice to see people here of my age. I am a grandma and baby sitting my daughter's chicks while she is away. Never thought I would be grandma to 18 chicks. Love doing it but have Lost two and another sick. Now I am worried sick.
Thank you so much for replying. They have a heat lamp which is at 95 right below it and at 80 to 85 on the outer edges of the brooder which is 4 x 6 feet. I have been watching them closely and they seem to stay where it is about 80 degrees. Is that right for their age?
Hi everyone, I am a worried grandma. My daughter is out of town and I am in charge of her new 3 week old chicks which she purchased to start her chick farm. We lost two small ones a couple days ago. Now one of the biggest strongest ones is sick too. The symptoms are (including the two we lost)...
