    Are fresh herbs ok to put in nesting boxes? Or, must they be dried first?

    I use both fresh herbs and dried herbs and my chickens love both! I put some in their nesting boxes, dust bathing areas and also in their chicken coop. I also like to plant peppermint and marigolds around my chicken coop to help deter the rodents!

    What's the temperature where you are???

    I am in Northern California. It's been hotter than usual here. This coming up week we are supposed to hit 100 degrees again. I am looking forward to the weather cooling off. So are my chickens!

    Yes, you most definitely can sprinkle some in your brooder. Your chickens/chicks will love it! I use peppermint, marigold, marjoram, chamomile, lavender, fennel seed, rosemary and parsley.     It is finally cooling down here in Northern California. It was in the mid 80's today. My chickens like it better too!

    I see that you aren't incubating the eggs. Chances are that it is not a humidity issue. I would let nature take its course.

    It's a hard call. If you do, just be prepared to care for a possibly handicapped chicken. A chicken may not hatch for a variety of reasons- it could be that it has some sort of infection that has caused it to be too weak to hatch. In this case you shouldn't help it hatch. If it is shrink...
