Hey friends,
Long time no post.
I have a flock of hens a little more than 16 months old - 2 buff orpingtons, 2 salmon feverolle and up until this morning 2 blue australorps (now 1).
A few days ago I noticed some yolk-like discharge on some of the eggs so I gave everyone a pretty thorough...
I was raised on farm fresh eggs, and have been buying unwashed farm fresh eggs from a co-worker for years before my girls first laid their eggs.
I've never noticed eggs smelling like anything but eggs, but today the smelled so much like the chicken feed that I couldn't eat them. Now these were...
My two buffs are the epitome of good hens - they are beautiful and strong and they have that chicken wisdom but are kind of silly. They don't ask for belly rubs like my Australorps do but they are still affectionate and just an overall joy to have in the coop

Hi BYC! First, I want to say I appreciate your grand wisdom.
I'm located in northern Utah, and I know I'm going to need some solutions to keep my water thawed in winter. Our average winter lows are overnight of mid 20's but it can decrease to the low teens for days or weeks at a time.

Ever since a few of my hens started laying, I've been checking on them from the coop side instead of the run side in the mornings.
They have figured out that when I visit from the coop side they are tall enough for significantly higher quality pets than when I visit from ground level.
This has...

I have
