As I was enjoying my morning coffee, I heard a rooster crow. I did not catch him in the act so I’m unsure which chicken it is. Didn’t think I had any roosters so maybe y’all can help me figure out which one it is??? I think I see little spurs trying to grow on the Easter Egger… but I have no...
I wonder if she got excited and pushed it out early bc I was calling them for treats (cut up strawberries)? She came running from the nest box when I hollered "Chicky Dicky Dickens" bc they know they're getting treats when I yell that. Either way, I'm increasing calcium and protein. Greek...
They've all been laying for about one and a half years. They are fed Dumor (sp?) layer feed from tractor supply and they free graze all day in the backyard. I have used oyster shell in the past but switched to crushed eggshells because they're free and the chickens like them. They are 2 years...
I've noticed since we've moved into a new house/ yard and chicken coop, that my leghorn has been laying more soft and misshapen eggs. Which I understand the stress of the move could cause a little stress. My other 3 hens have adapted well and are laying like normal. But today's soft egg (from...
No netting. Just grass and dirt. And there's no eggs under the shed....yet. They will probably start laying soon though. We got them 2 weeks before Easter so we're excited to see them start laying.
Too late. But they don't even hang out in there anyway. They like to go to the sandy area under the shed (its on blocks). They stay under there so much I'm afraid that they'll try to lay their eggs there.
I just laid st augustine in our chicken run. Maybe they'll kill it. Maybe they won't. They free range in the backyard most of the day and i keep watering the grass. I've only had the grass for about a week now And the only reason I laid it was to cover the hardwire cloth so they don't break...
Its cool. I'm overly defensive sometimes as well. I hope I can fix it all myself. Funny thing is this whole chicken raising thing was my daughter and husbands idea but now I'm the one doing all the work to raise them and keep them safe! They even have a cute little handwritten contract between...
I haven't had experience with traps yet. I have a cowardly cat who would get himself trapped and ruin my efforts. Although he is really sweet with the chickens. They hang out together under the shed and he doesn't even try to attack them. It's unnaturally adorable.
Thanks for the ideas. I'll look into that. I tried to get hubby to bury some of the cloth but he and his dad were a bit lazy about it and didn't do it. Guess I'll have to do it myself!
