Whole flock has chicken fleas/mites. How do I get rid of them?

I have made the Permethrin at the recommended rate per water and stronger. I have used several gallons in the last year. I sprayed every 4 days and dipped the chickens. Also used Viper dust on all of the dirt in the chickens yard ( they do free range and can’t treat acres). I have tried lime and...

Whole flock has chicken fleas/mites. How do I get rid of them?

I have been fighting sticktight fleas for a year. I have always cleaned up the coop every morning and dusted with DE. Last April I noticed black specks on the combs. I have sprayed (several different types of chemicals that was recommended). I have dipped, dusted or sprayed the chickens every 5...

Moving eggs from broody hen to another

Unfortunately she is in our garage and we never catch her off the nest. We did candle the eggs (waited until late at night) and they look like the pictures for Day 10, 11 and 12. We believe they will hatch within a few days. Last year we had several hens that were sitting on large number of...

Moving eggs from broody hen to another

I have a broody hen that has been sitting for 2 weeks (there were 3 eggs when she started). I had fenced her off to keep other hens from climbing in and laying more eggs. I checked under her and now there are 14 eggs. Last time this happened most of the chicks got crushed. I now have another...

    Hen or Rooster

My Amerecaunas have barely any comb. That’s another reason I can’t tell. Plus they have pointy saddle feathers.

    Hen or Rooster

These 2 are 16 weeks old. I have 25 babies and I believe most are roosters. I don’t see bumps where the spurs would come in. The other ones that I know are roosters have begun to crow. Can someone tell me how to tell?

Hen not letting chicks roost at night

She did ween them at 8 weeks and has been fine with them roosting in the coop. But 10 weeks later she is trying to run every one out at night. She is even knocking the old hens off their roosts. They are not even close to her. She is even chasing everyone out of the nest boxes ( they have been...

Hen not letting chicks roost at night

The chicks are now 18 weeks old but the hen ( mother) has started running them out of the coop in the evening. She has also started running out some of the other hens. There’s plenty of room but she’s taken to not letting anyone one near her or on the bar she sits on. I tried waiting until...

Introducing a hatched chick to hen

I have a Red Star that went broody. She had 10 eggs under her (other hens kept laying with her). I put some in an incubator because I was afraid of them getting smashed (had that problem with a Easter Egger). First one hatched was in the incubator and I was able to put it under her. Then a...

Hen is acting funny around penned up chicks

I have 4 2 month old chicks in a pen in the chickens yard ( they would not take to a hen). I have a hen with chicks that are the same age. When she sees them she acts like a rooster ( dropping her wing and chattering at them). I know she has killed another hens smaller chick. Is she trying to...

Hello! I have not had chickens since high school and now have over 40. I have a wide variety of different breeds. We also have parrots, dogs, cats and cattle. I also like to bake and quilt. I have seen posts about different things and thought this would be a great place to ask questions.
