    How to light my coop.

Maybe first thing you should ask yourself if you want your chickens for production or just what the lay naturally. Ours are production so we add light in the winter and once they slow way down around 2 years we replace. If you want them to lay naturally then no light needed.

    How to light my coop.

I think you have a few steps here. 1. Getting electricity to your coop 2. Installing your lights safely within the coop, so the chickens cannot accidentally get entangled. 3. Timmers and times. Let's start with number 1 Running a long lightweight cord is not the best idea. We need more info on...

    40 years on.

One time I was at a property that had a Chicken House only had maybe 10,000 chickens but I could not hear a single sound that I was not that far from the building. I wondered then and I wonder now with your comment why do you think the chickens were so quiet?

To Silkie or not to Silkie?

I've had silkies for 3 or 4 years here in indiana. I never got the memo they are not cold hardy, and fragile. Treat mine no different than our other hen's, they seem to be doing just fine.

Pine needles is way softer than straw I've use that in the past in the nest boxes and they love it not these particular flock. As far as moving the Box I've taken the box out they immediately laid where the box was so I...

    Plastic poultry flooring

To be honest I had never heard of the flooring until about two hours before the post. I have a rollaway nest box that I cannot get them to use. Then lay in a box in the corner and only dirty when wet outside. I saw the flooring and thought the hard floor might get them to move into the nest box...

    Plastic poultry flooring

Shavings under would help the poop dry and kinda absorb. The flooring would keep them from walking in Poop in the coop. Cleaner floor SHOULD give me cleaner eggs ... If anyone has ever worked fastfood, and are familiar with bun trays that buns are deliverd in. I have some of those and they would...
