    Best Egg Layers

    Hi, Rocky. I think that even though you don't want them, White Leghorns are the best layers. I have some and also some RIR's. The Reds are good layers too. My Leghorns 5-6 eggs /wk /each. My Reds 3-5 eggs /wk /each.

    Hens digging under fencing !!

    My 6 girlies ( hens ) insist on scratching along the perimeter of the inside of their run. They've almost got to the bottom of the chicken wire in some spots, 6-8" underground ! I've filled their trenches in a few times but they just re-dig. Would gravel stop this or should I use concrete ? Any...

    Canada Geese and Chickens ??

    In a couple of months we'll start seeing wild geese around my house. My chickens aren't free ranging, but would they get along with wild geese if they were ? The geese come to my yard ( I live on a canal ) foraging, and I'm wondering what type of entertainment to expect.

    finally starting laying again -- anyone else?

    My 6 girls ( 4 white leghorns, 2 RIR ), never stopped. Maybe slowed a teeny bit. They're 8 mos old. We're currently getting 4-5 eggs per day, with no artificial light ( except a heat lamp two nights so far ).

    cold weather egg production

    Yeah, mine ( 6 hens ) only slowed a little bit. We haven't had bitter cold yet, but shortened daylight for sure like eveyone else. Went from 5-6 eggs per day to 3-5 per day.
