I have a Buff that is now into her 8th week of being broody. How do I get her to stop??? I have tried moving her to another coop...didn't work. She does eat and drink then moves to any empty nesting box....sigh!
I can't seem to start a NEW thread but I have a question. I have a Buff that is now into her 8th week of being broody. I take any eggs that she (or another hen) may lay but she will NOT stop! How do I break her from her broodiness??? She does eat and drink on occasion. She is one...
thank you for your responses. I guess I am just disappointed in the Welsummers. 11 months old and only 1 to 3 eggs from the 9 of them. This morning I finally got 1 green egg from the 4 Easter Eggers....after 3 days of nothing. It has turned bitterly cold here again so I assume I will get...
I ordered all of them as chicks from Cackle Hatchery in March of last year. The EE are not laying well either. I usually get 1 green egg every day from the 4 hens BUT I have not had a green egg in 3 days! From the 9 Welsummers, I may get 2, if I am lucky. So 3 eggs average from these 13...
My Welsummers are 10 months old. I have 9 of them and I am only getting 1 to 2 eggs a day!! I am very, VERY disappointed. My Welsummers are in with 4 Easter Eggers and 1 EE roo.
In fact, all my chickens are not producing well at all. I have 35 other hens....some Buff Orpingtons, Black Sex...
Free range is good BUT they need a diet of layer feed included (pellets or crumbles). Also, if they are moulting, they need more protein to help with feather replacement. Use scratch sparingly when the temperatures are high. I only give scratch as a treat, not as a food source.
Good news! Daughter got "3" eggs today! Hope for more in the coming days. This has been a. Mystery but am now suspecting moulting as the problem. Thanks to all who responded!
That is what she did yesterday, turned them back out to free range. It is VERY strange! Never had this happen before.
She has been raising chicken for about 5 years now. Most of her hens are Buff Orpingtons with a few "mixed" ones thrown in from chicks raised from a couple of setting...
Pretty sure she still uses layer pellets from the Co-Op. Younger ones should have begun laying about 4 weeks ago. It has been very wet here this year until last month, then hot and dryer. Temps are below normal but still around 85 - 90 during the day. Last egg was 2 months ago. Everyone...
Yes. I forgot to mention that. That is what I thought also but now that they are confined to the hen house and enclosed run....still nothing! There are not even any indentions in the shavings in the nesting boxes...doesn't look like any of the hens are even trying to lay. No eggs hidden in...
My daughter has about 25 hens of various ages. The oldest would be about 3 yrs old, the youngest about 6 1/2 months. She free-ranged them all until about 2 weeks ago. She was getting 1 or 2 eggs per week...then None! She pinned them all up in the coop area and still gets ZERO eggs per day...
