I rescued this hen from an animal shelter today. Just confirming what breed she is. I think some kind of Game Hen? Anyone know? If so, I’m pretty unfamiliar with the breed, so I just need to know what to research! She is small, the shelter thought she was about 5 months old.
Thanks so much for your answer. We ended up not bringing Granny Smith home with us as we worried it would stress her out too much and make her condition worse. I just panicked seeing an animal in distress and I wanted to help, but I think my relative has it in hand. I am positive she is...
My husband and I are visiting family a couple hours away and they have a hen who is sickly. I think it’s a respiratory illness of some kind as she is sneezing. She also has sickly looking eyes, like you can just tell she feels bad. I’m a little concerned about her feet too, maybe scaly leg mites...
Thank you for this article. I discovered a hen with what I think is sour crop yesterday. I’m treating with monistat. My question is, should I continue feeding her like normal during treatment? You say to give boiled egg following treatment, but I’m assuming I can give this during treatment as...
Clover is 20 weeks old and the nicest rooster ever. He recently lost his tail feathers to a dog attack so he’s convalescing inside, and today he just hung out with me for like 45 minutes. I know there’s still a chance he could turn mean but so far he’s just a sweetie!
Thank you, I really hope that’s the case. She does seem to have stopped right before I put her to bed last night, after I forced some water with a little ACV and honey. I keep the coop cleaned out (scoop out droppings daily) but I did introduce some hay into the coop yesterday (finally got...
This evening my Easter Egger hen has started sneezing almost nonstop. At least I think it’s a sneeze - it’s a very loud honking noise! If she was a human I’d definitely call it a sneeze. She also sounds congested when I listen to her chest and I’ve maybe heard a cough or two (I don’t really know...
Okay new development. I offered him water in a little cup and he is drinking quite a bit, but I’m noticing that a lot of the water is just dripping back out from his beak. I’m wondering if he is literally unable to lift his head up to let the water go down.
