Thank you everyone! The last poult went into the kennel that had the caught ones already. The tom was hanging by them, but I just don't think he had the attention span of the hen. I've put the poults in with a hen that has a chick about the same age as poults as well as some younger ones she is... -
Tom raising a poult?
The mom was lost to a predator last night (she was free ranging). Four of the poults remain. I've managed to catch three. The tom, when let out of the coop in the morning was attracted to the poults crying. He seems to be looking after the remaining free poult. He's calling it and letting it... -

I am really hating myself. Walked into the bathroom tonight (light off) and stepped on a squeaky toy. It compressed with a long squeak. But then I took my foot off and realized that our dogs did not play with rubber squeaky toys in my bathroom that it was a 9 day old chick. Not instantly dead...- bardies

Glad you were able to 'farm' out the calf to a nursing mom. I actually made butter too from a really good milking longhorn. It was my first successful butter making attempt!- bardies

Any ideas on what to do with a 2day old chick with a compound wing break? There was a piece of bone (I now believe) that came off - it was about the length of a grain of rice but about a fifth as thick. Injury seems to be in the armpit area. Hard to tell with such a small thing. NO CLUE whats...- bardies

Founds some buddy chicks for my one legged peeper at the auction last night. Amazing how much more messy 7 chicks are than one chick with a bad leg! He seems quite content with the new arrivals even though they are a few days older and a little bigger. There were some very cool large fowl birds...- bardies

Anyone in the market for a 'special' chick? I have a (found in the cowyard) bantam type chick - mama was likely a bantam cochin, dad, who knows...
