It was very gelatinous, I was able to poke it around but it was like jelly. Mostly same consistency as what was on the outside. I am not sure which hen, they all rotate in and out of that nest box and a few take turns sleeping in there. Any precautions or things I should be looking out for if...
Just found this in the nesting boxes. No hens are showing signs of lethargy. Any ideas?
Just to add, it’s obviously not poo it looked just like raw chicken meat 🤢
I ended up trying a virtual vet app, the vet prescribed tetracycline powder and tobradex eye drops. She has two days left of the 14 day treatment and the lump pretty much has gone away!! It stil looks like it’s there a bit but feels completely empty probably just some loose skin. Attached photo...
I received the Terramycin and have been using it twice a day since Monday night. The lump has slowly returned since it was drained last (feb22). Is it too early to see improvements with the meds? Also not sure exactly how effective I am with getting it in her eye. I apply it to corners of eye...
We’re drained the limp twice now and the fluid was clear like poking a blister. The second time we drained it the lump returned within a week. I am waiting on the terramycin to arrive in the mail so I will see if that will help if it’s something sinus related but will probably drain the lump...
Thank you for the info! I was able to find terramycin online which ships to Canada thankfully… hoping it actually arrives because there are no vet options for chickens near me. I will keep trying the polysporin drops until it arrives
Thanks. Would the polysporin eye drops still be ok to keep using? Or would that not do anything if it’s mycoplasma. I can’t seem to find any sites with tylosin that ships to Canada unfortunately. I will keep searching
I gave her the eye drops about an hour ago, eye has foam on it again.
Just editing to add: none of the other chickens have had any symptoms like watery eye, sneezing, face swelling.
And now her other eye on the side without the swelling has clear foam.
Updating this older thread. After draining the fluid from the lump it came back to the same size within a month so we tried again. Its been a week since the second time draining it and the lump is back again to full size.
Noticed today her eye on that side had clear foam and her nostril had...
Update - I poked just under the skin and a lot of clear but yellow tint liquid came out. Is that pus? I heard chicken pus is stringy so I wasn’t sure. It was like a blister popping.
It does have a darker spot on it. It does feel like some sort of fluid but not totally liquid filled. I don’t recall her having any sort of wound there but maybe something small happened. If it is a cyst how should I treat it? I will try to treat it for this and try the sinus infection...
Hello my 6 month old Brahma hen has been developing this lump in her face for the last couple months. The lump is not rock hard but not super soft, kind of feels like a mix.
She had no runny eyes on nose, no wheezing or coughing or goopy / crusty eyes. Appetite and energy level are really...
