    Abnormal poop? Water from beak

Hi BY BOB! Thank you for response. That's comforting to hear. It has been very humid and hot. 90s and close to 100 some days. I let them out to roam while I'm home so they can find places to cool down. When they are confined to their enclosure I have a box fan on for them. I have thought about...

    Abnormal poop? Water from beak

Yikes... All these unknowns! It's scary. I hope she is able to stay strong while we wait to be seen by the vet . One more week.

    Abnormal poop? Water from beak

Thank you for the quick reply and information! I am working on identifying which it is. I feel like the fourth hen is also now doing the same thing. Opening beak often and shaking head. I massaged the crop several times yesterday and did the whole tipping the hen to try to induce vomitting. But...

    Abnormal poop? Water from beak

Hello all. We have had very hot and humid weather the past two weeks. I know this can effect everyone, especially these outdoor animals! However , I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is heat related or something else. I'll post a picture of the poop I've been seeing coming from my one hen. The same...

Washed Plaster Sand for Chicken Run

Yes this sand doesn't seem dusty at all. It's dense . I just worry about their feet or if they are chemicals added or something. And the folks at the nursery of course think I'm crazy!! Haha

Washed Plaster Sand for Chicken Run

Hi All!!! I've gotten sand from our local nursery a few months ago for our chicken run and so far so good. I had recently built an addition so ordered more sand. This time though, it seems different. They said it was washed plaster sand. It's already bought and delivered... Is this sand okay...

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

Thank you! She did seem kind of normal later this afternoon. Not as quick as she normally but she was hanging with her two sisters and came to get some treats. I been watching her like a hawk! Haha

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

Good to know others have seen this happen. (Not that I am happy it happens to other chickens because that's sad, just happy we aren't alone and you all have experience). I don't even care to get eggs from this poor hen, I just don't want to her hurting in any way. These hens are more like pets...

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

It's interesting because she doesn't seem to take to the oyster shells like the other two. So maybe it is a deficiency. Vet appointment is set for tomorrow at 2pm! 🤞

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

That's awesome she was able to recover on her own! I was hoping that would happen with my one hen that I did put down 2 weeks ago. But she was in bad shape. This current hen is displaying similar symptoms but not as severe (knock on wood). So I'm not sure if it's just a matter of time before she...

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

Thank you all for your replies! I always feel like they can use more room! But nothing beats foraging.I do let them out for a little bit every day. It's something I've learned with the chicken keeping experience is that I'd rather just be able to free range them only but I can't right now. Next...

Hen not sitting while roosting at night

Hello everyone! I have a flock of 3 White leghorns that are around 3 years old. Originally I had 4 but I had to put one down two weeks ago. The hen I put down had gotten sick but I never knew the reason. She just appeared depressed for a few days, then started isolating herself, then diarrhea...
