I've noticed some duck eggs turned a darker color or developed dark splotches just before hatching. I always speculated that it was from them trying to internally pip, but they hit a large blood vessel and the dark discoloration is from a bleed. But mine usually hatched out just fine afterwards...

Can you take a pic of the egg? Even a candling photo? If you study it while candling, you may be able to see movement if it's alive.
