It is a little complicated to explain. We call it the nesting box/roost at home, but really it's just a roost. I probably should have just said roost, sorry for the misleading words.
About an hour ago, I was walking around the yard with my four pullets. They love the attention, so I chill with my girls daily and they are very comfortable around me. I heard something shuffling around in their coop, and I saw it was a squirrel trying to steal their feed. I quickly shooed the...
Final Update
Yesterday was a good day for the robin family. No babies out of the nest, because I put it back in one last time the day before.
Sadly, I woke up to find one baby dead and a good distance away from its nest. Something had tried to carry it away but failed. From this experience, I...
What you could do is really insulate the area but remember, ventilation is really important, and move the coop and pen really close to the house. My great grandmother actually had the coop attached to her home in a sort of way.
On the other hand, if it is becoming difficult for you to care for...
Update
I have some disappointing news... The baby has fallen out yet again. The new nest set up that I had done last night is still intact, and I have no idea how the baby got out. I don't believe it was a predator, but I may be wrong. Earlier, I had said something about possible brain issues...
Butt checks!!! Also watching my pullets behavior helped very well, you just things like that. My Plymouth Rock, other ISA, and Easter Egger don't pass the butt check as a layers just yet, but Sunny (ISA Brown) sure does!
Update
Mom and Dad robin have finally calmed down now that their babies are safe and back into a secure nest. They have continued to feed them, too. All is good for now, thank you guys, again!
Yeah, that's what was a possible symptom. It also said that it could be a sort of runt, that wouldn't survive in the wild anyways. Balance is important to life, so it would continue to fall out again and again.
Went to check on my chickens one last time for the day, and found my 4 pullets up in the roost, as they usually are at this time. Went to check for any possible eggs from one of them who has laid three (Sunny, ISA Brown), and noticed that my Barred Plymouth Rock Henrietta was acting highly...
Update!
I just finished the job with the nest, and safely returned the baby into it. I'm keeping watch on the nest, Mom and Dad robin are watching and slowly returning to it. The baby looks healthy and responds normally. I'm hoping it will not fall out again. I was reading, and sometimes...
