Day 19… already pipping need advice 😥

Thanks that eases my mind a little bit, it has been quite warm where I’m at in California this week, upper 80’s and low 90’s with pretty high humidity. I guess my biggest concern now is do I leave the brown eggs that I am uncertain of, I thought all 6 were infertile but then one of the first to...

Day 19… already pipping need advice 😥

So today is day 19 of my incubation , somehow I lost a day until I looked at the date of my log and freaked out because in my mind lock down wasn’t supposed to happen until tomorrow, but as I was in there taking it out I noticed one of the brown eggs was already pipped and chirping coming from...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Only 4 eggs today 3 standard and 1 bantam. Dotty still broody, take the eggs under her each day but she’s stubborn. Funny thing is she’s not even laying just sitting on someone else’s eggs lol. I can’t wait till days start getting light longer, by then all 13 of my girls should be laying.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 5 today, 4 of them were brown eggs which means at least 4 of my six standard hen are now laying, only 1 of them was a bantam egg. My Dotty has definitely gone broody hasn’t gotten out of the lay box since I posted last and sitting on all the eggs.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 7 eggs for the first time today from the 9 of my girls who are of laying age. My daily count should start going up in about 2-4 weeks when my 4 youngest bantams get to that age as well. I love this guessing game, how many eggs will it be today. On a side note I think I have my first...

Merging my flock, am I doing it right?

My 14 week girls have been in the coop about 8 weeks now. The chicks I was incubating, hatched and had in the brooder are now 7 weeks and ready to go into the coop with the big girls. Last week hubby and I built a little fence and placed that in the run area under the coop (see pic) and I put...

    Chickens not roosting at night

I hadn’t thought about a light I will have to try that and see if it helps. I has been in the mid 50s here at night that might be part of the problem as well. If you look at the pic of the coop you can see two triangle areas that are open (except for hardware cloth). Hubby and I never put the...

    Chickens not roosting at night

New chicken tender, and have a question… My fluffy butt babies moved in to their coop at 7 weeks old. For the first couple nights they kept bunching up in the lay boxes for the night. I decide to block those off with a sheet of plywood for now as I didn’t want them to confuse those for where...

I used to be a crazy cat lady and now I have converted successfully to chickens…

We currently have 4 inside cats, 15 outside cats, 3 dogs and now 19 chicken. At one point in time when I first moved to my house I was breeding hedgehogs and had 15 of them and dubbed my internet id as the FunnyFarm not knowing how prophetic that would be. I’m a terrible sucker for animals and...

Me! I am first time chicken tender and loving it! I know there are tons in the city they just may not know or care to find others online in the area.

I used to be a crazy cat lady and now I have converted successfully to chickens…

So, I thought I would give a little update on the success of my first incubation of a dozen eggs… Three of the eggs were not fertile. I accidentally dropped one while candleing, bantam eggs are so little and those suckers are slippery soft, I was so upset about that as I’m pretty sure it was a...

    Hen or Roo

Yeah that’s what I have been thinking all along. Their combs and now waddles are way more prominent than all my others. I was just hoping it was due to them being Orpingtons as the rest are bantams, sexlinks and wyandottes. Not to mention their legs are thicker than the others as well.

    Coop Roost feedback

Hadn’t thought about that, that’s a good idea. I was thinking a whole bar but a box or crate would work great. Thanks for the input.
