I don't remember where I read this and it sounds crazy but it seems to have worked for me. Instant dry mashed potato flakes apparently swell up when eaten and kills the rodent. I just put a bowl under a folding chair or a pallet where the chickens will leave it alone and the rodents will enjoy...
Curious if anyone has ever used the mosquito bracelets or stickers in the coop. The ones I purchased contain geranoil, lemongrass and citronella oil and various inert ingredients. I have one damaged roo and his friend in a large dog kennel which I cover with a tarp at night so there is not much...
Henrietta, Hennifer, Baracky, Blue, Daisy, Pansy, Petunia.Polly, Wolly and Doodle, and 2 roos....Roo2 and Daffodil who was supposed to be a chicken. My 2 wyandottes, Dottie and Winnie are nesting in that great roost in the sky. Love my girls. Obviously pets.
I would definitely give him a few days of great food and treats and anything that keeps him happpy. Hold him on your lap if he likes that and then at some point end it as quickly and painlessly as possible.
So often the solution to most chicken problems is culling. It renews my faith to see everyone offering advice and assistance just to save one little chicken. The story I told here of my house chicken ended sadly but I still feel those weeks she spent in the house gave her a great quality of life...
So I think that works. Roo2 just went through a massive molt and looks much better. For once in his life he actually gets to enjoy a treat without handing off to a greedy girl.
Was trying to get pics but haven't figured out the easy transfer from phone to laptop. I purchased a large chicken pen and am currently using only half which is more room than inside the coop. He seems happy and his girls go in to visit and Polly, my gentle Polish chick, spends the night...
Only one experience but after seeing rats in the daytime around the coop I read in byc about mashed potato flakes and I simply put down dishes in spots unavailable to the chickens and believe it or not the rats disappeared quickly. I believe the basis is they eat the raw flakes which then expand...
I named my last six after flowers. Pansy, Petunia, Tulip, Zinnia, Daisy and Daffodil.... now I have a rooster with the girly name Daffodil but he doesn't seem to mind.
He is definitely yearning for his flock but I am not sure if the hens want to be with him or are just coming around because every time they see me they expect treats. They have not combined with Daffodil's flock but they do seem to be mingling more. If i can convince my son-in-law to put up a...
