Thank you so much for that information! I'm going to be doing more reading on this. I'm assuming that's why everyone just says "black is black, period", but then you have people saying not to get certain blacks for certain projects or colors, and then there's confusion because they were told...
So 1/2 the black offspring would be pure black & 1/2 of the black offspring would not be pure black?
It sounds like what I was trying to say, but I had it backwards...I thought the one with the E would be pure black. Thank you for correcting that and for the information :)
Isn't the MI gene the Melanizers?
Here's more pics, hopefully in order that will show you what I'm talking about...or maybe it's irrelevant, but I didn't think so or I wouldn't have posted, but I am also trying to learn here, so when I post it's supposed to come off as a hypothetical "what...
Well, I believe you definitely understand more about this than I do! Here's pics, they both show extended E, but the description & offspring are different. The difference between the 2 is in the MI gene...I'd love to understand this better, so any advice is welcome :)
ETA: Correct photo
I believe it will make a difference in your results if you use a hen without the self-e. For example, if you obtain a black that was hatched from a blue with self lacing, the blue is not self-e and neither is the black unless one of the parents has the self-e, in which half chicks would have...
I think I found the answer to the BBS issue. I believe it boils down to the blues being used.
So, if you have a non laced blue (blue unicolor/self-e) the blacks produced will carry the self-e gene as well.
If you have a blue with lacing (blue unicolor/self laced) the black chicks hatched will...
Whoa
Whoa....she is Gorgeous!! 😍
Thank you for that info. I figured as much, but it was worth a shot. She is our very first laced bird, totally unexpected & now we're hooked! We're going to try to hatch more of her from the parents we have come spring. I can't stand the yellow legs, but I'm...
Just out of curiosity, if I crossed her with her brother who is a paint would I have better luck of hatching more of her or would the dominant white win out? Just asking since he's from the same Cinnamon hen (and the only roo we hatched from her out of 17 chicks!!)
Thanks so much for that info! I probably would've been scratching my head upon seeing it (and probably still will LOL). I thought she looked like a Silver penciled Wyandotte. That's actually how I found out the Cinnamon Queens were originally created using an RIR x SLW, instead of the now more...
This girl...she is going to be paired with my Blue Ameraucana roo next year. She is from my Black Ameraucana Roo x Cinnamon Queen hen. She is the only one with these colors, her other 4 flock mates are paints. I'm not sure what I'm expecting yet, but I am hopeful! Any advice or ideas are welcome...
Unfortunately this is all too common with Ameraucanas. The feed stores & places like McMurrays hatchery market their EEs as Ameraucanas or Americanas intentionally misleading people, then you have people who end up with EEs selling them as Ameraucanas bc that's what they thought they bought &...
I have an all black pullet that looks sooo close to an Ameraucana...but this one thin scribbly brown line running thru her chest...thus she remains with the EE Flock. Yours looks great from the pics. I don't see anything that says EE. I'd say you got lucky!
I feel your pain on being duped by McMurrays...my husband was as well. As for our experience, we ordered 6 sr, recieved 6 + 1 mystery bird. 1 of them we spent 19 weeks completely convinced it was a rooster...until she laid the 1st egg of the flock 🤣 🤣 🤣 She had a VERY roosterish tail until she...
