Well she made it and is doing much better found out it's not so much bullying but our top hen mounts others for dominance and this girl was just to small and got her face pushed into the muck( it was a rainy day) question is any way to deter this behavior? Or will we just have to keep this girl...
Thank you, this is what I was hoping(shock). I didn't know if another chicken could cause internal injuries or not, I wasn't home when it happened hubby heard the commotion and seperated the injured girl. She doesn't seem to be in pain we have picked her up and checked her over and her eyes are...
Hi, I am a newer chicken owner and we found one of our smaller girls getting bullied by our head hen. I don't know if she's injured or just in shock. She was trembling I have her seperated in a heated area with water and soaked feed etc.. My real question is how long should I give her to try to...
I get what you are saying and I do think that's what they meant. However, all our local places have a minimum purchase of 6 chicks so I think I'd have a pretty good argument I mean what do they expect you to do set the extras free in the parking lot 😄 because if chicks are counted you'd be...
I do think that is what they meant but it is written poorly and I think I'd have a good argument being as our in town farm stores require you to buy a minimum of 6 chicks and Icould only find one online that sells within our limit. So I'd argue that fact but, fingers crossed I won't have to.
Yes, I plan to play it by ear my neighbors so far have been easy going and they are both owned not rentals. I plan to offer some eggs here and there and see how it goes from there.
Thanks I don't plan on running a supertight schedule either good to know I can wait another year without much loss. As far as culling I do plan on trying to get some practice locally just to have technique down so it is as humane as possible. I'm a nurse so squeamish I'm not lol!
Thanks I felt it was kind of a generic ordinance I've been doing my research for months 😆 and was like what about chicks and pullets as soon as I read it but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything by checking here. I'm raising for eggs and did not see how it would be feasible without...
Thanks I will contact our local farm groups to see what needs to happen to get clarification on the books and will definitely get back with you for some advice. These are my first chicks and just trying to do everything on the up and up and was let down by the generic municipal code. I'm raising...
It is online and I have read it it only states 4 hens no roosters nothing about chicks or pullets mentioned. That's why I'm questioning. I'm inJacksonville Illinois
Anyone know if my ordinance states 4 hens allowed are we allowed to start bringing up their replacements before culling an old hen. So there aren't gaps in egg production? Basically are chicks/pullets counted separately from hens? Theres no specific references to chicks in ordinances just states...
