That must be why my son named him Star. 💫
He does a good job too. I’ve spotted a hawk sitting on the outer fence of the run of a couple of times, and he has the hens in the coop, and he’s got himself parked in the pop door not letting them out.
Correct, but because it is expressed as a percentage, we don’t need to know the density of the solute, if I understand this correctly: https://chem.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Introductory_Chemistry/Chemistry_for_Allied_Health_(Soult)/08%3A_Properties_of_Solutions/8.01%3A_Concentrations_of_Solutions
Okay, I've redone the math and I think we both got it wrong.
44.2% ought to be .442mg/1ml
442mg/1ml would be 44,200%, right?
The dilution is 3oz./10gal.
Which would be 0.3 oz./1gal.
0.3oz. = 8.87206ml (just used an online conversion for this bit)
1gal = 3785.41ml
So, 8.87ml concentrate /...
Okay, so another mite question: I’ve heard that Elector PSP is supposed to be effective for mites and lice of all types. The down side is that it is super pricey ($160). The active ingredient is Spinozad.
I was at Lowe’s looking for a puffer to use to try to get permethrin powder on chicken...
Thanks for the info. Yep, tiny brown things that run around near their vents. I usually don’t notice them anywhere else on their bodies though. Ironically, the infestation seems to have started right after I changed the coop bedding. But probably they were there before and I just noticed it then...
I believe it’s northern fowl mite. It doesn’t look like lice to me, and they aren’t red. I think I might use Sevin spray to get the vertical surfaces in the coop, and I’ve mixed sand into their dust bathing areas just to try to break up the clay a bit more for them. I’m seeing an improvement...
Petrie, could you link the article or book by Nichol that you are referencing? I’ve tried scrolling back to find it, but I’m missing it.
I’m on my 3rd permethrin treatment trying to get rid of mites/lice, and just this morning I see more crawling all over the decoy eggs again, so I guess...
After reading the local extension literature regarding the rules for washing eggs for sale in Pennsylvania, I usually just spot clean the dirty ones with a damp/soapy paper towel and then dry. Because eggs for sale here are required to be refrigerated, they also have to be washed because the...
Enjoyed what was probably the last warm day of the year and my daughter and I spent some time hanging with the chickens. My girlie is definitely the chicken whisperer in our family. I am so proud of this girl’s bravery and perseverance. She was the first person our roo decided to try and attack...
