I have the Little Giant incubator and egg turner. Removing the turner at day 18 and putting them on the screen lets the chicks to get oriented for hatching. As the 1st chicks hatch they jostle and roll the other eggs around. Is that a problem? Would it be better to put something on top of the...
Yes understood that they stop or slow down laying during the winter. No signs of worms in the droppings. What do you think of the pumpkin seed/garlic and app,e cider vinegar as prevention/treatment for worms?
I keep seeing that worms are a reason for hens to stop laying and poop on the eggs is the tell tale sign. What exactly does a "poopy egg" look like. How do these eggs look? Is that just dirt from all the rain we've had? ?
I purchased these chicks from tractor supply. They're about 2 weeks old. They were 8 Buff Orpingtons and supposedly 5 Rhode Island Reds. The mostly black chicks don't seem to be Rhode Island Red chicks. Any idea what breed they might be?
It seems like they're not molting all at the same time a couple appeared to molt in the fall. 1 is molting now although I can't be sure what is molting and what is rooster feather loss. A couple seemed to molt so gradually it wasn't really noticeable but they have such healthy shiny plumage they...
Hey I have a few questions. Not real experienced with chickens.
-Egg laying slowed down over the fall and winter which I expected. Then in January I let them in to cleanup last year's vegetable garden, we also had a warm spell and laying picked up. Mid February I kept them out of the garden...
Ok so they are Easter Eggers. What does Easter Egger mean? Is there a specific breed? Are they Ameraucanas, or something else and how can you tell? Or is Easter Egger like a mutt that lays blue eggs?
WOW it's unanimous! No kidding Easter Egger, they were marked Orpington at Tractor Supply. the hen does lay pretty blue eggs. Thanks for the help guys!
Thanks for the info I'll keep watch and check the eggs. I thought they had stopped laying and then looked under the coop and a nest with a couple dozen eggs.
Ok so maybe have shot. I only have 2 male 2 female. Mine are free range 1/2 the time but in the coop at night. Last fall they were making nests all over the yard I couldn't leave the eggs out there with the predators. Now since they're laying in the nest box I'll keep them in the run for a...
