Hello, this chicken hatched with an umbilical hernia. It has been doing okay, eating and drinking, other than having very rapid short breathing. It also seems to be growing a little bit slower than the rest. Today it started to almost be gasping for air and I don’t know what to do. It breathes...

    HELP! Chick not hatching!!

Blood vessels were all dried up this morning, so I chipped away more around the bottom, applied more coconut oil, and am hoping chickie will push the rest of the way out. He/she was still chirping and was trying to kick itself out when I put it back in the bator. The picture was taken right...

    HELP! Chick not hatching!!

We are not 100% positive, as they came from a nearby farm. However we know that the roosters are purebred french copper marans, so we could get some 1st and 2nd gen. olive eggers :)

    HELP! Chick not hatching!!

quick update, the veins look a tinyyy bit smaller. I could only pick away a little more of the shell, as I think the air cell was positioned a little bit to the side instead of right on the bottom. Coconut oil is on :)

Okay, chipped away as much as I could on the end, but anywhere else causes bleeding so I left it alone. The veins are still very large

    HELP! Chick not hatching!!

Okay, thanks! Not sure if this is true, but I’ve heard you are supposed to keep enough of the shell on so that the chick can still kick its way out. If it can’t, it’s legs won’t develop properly. Is this correct?

Umbilical Cord still attached to chick?

Hello, this chick hatched about 30 hours ago and part of its unbilical cord still has not fallen off (see picture #1) is it okay to cut it off so the other chicks don’t peck it off. I know not to pull it all the way off, but i’m afraid the other chicks might. Also, any idea what kind of chickens...
