    Broody geese on empty nest

My girls are very young. They've only just started laying and even though initially there were a couple of eggs in the nest the silly goose wasn't sitting on them?! 🙄😂

Oh wow! No, I did not know that ... Thank you ☺️

    Broody geese on empty nest

I gently shooed them off the nest with a broom and then covered the nest so they can't see or access it ... They weren't very happy with me but I think we'll be okay ☺️.

    Broody geese on empty nest

Hi everyone, I have two broody geese sitting on an empty nest. How do I stop them being broody without making them hate me? I saw a thread that says dismantle the nest and/or remove them from the nest repeatedly, but how do you do that when they're hissing and biting you? Or is it just a case...

    Meat bird deaths

Yes we get both here, although I'm almost 100% certain that it's not coccidiosis because there's no evidence of bloody poop. But I'll eliminate all possibilities because I'm really tired of loosing birds. I'm actually not a fan of the broiler industry and would ideally like to find an...

    Meat bird deaths

Hi everyone, Feedback please ... It's the 5th time I'm raising meat birds from day old and I've always experienced "unexplained" deaths i.e I'll just find a dead bird in the shed. I buy from a reputable supplier, I use quality feed (starter, grower and finisher). I use shavings (deep litter...

    Roosters are awesome

I feel the same way about my roosters ... They're an asset to my homestead. They also sit with me and let me pick them up for scratches ... My hens aren't nearly as friendly?! 😅

    Egg Eating

In my experience, cull ... I've had the odd "egg eater" and I've tried all the recommended methods to stop her. They work for a week or two, but then she's back to her ol' habits. So now I just cull 🤷

Crusty head (as a result of a respiratory infection)

Hi there! Thank you for responding. My research led me to choose culling them. Not an easy decision but I don't want to risk loosing anymore birds.

Crusty head (as a result of a respiratory infection)

Hi everyone, two of my silkies had a respiratory infection which they have since recovered from so they're healthy in all other respects - drinking, eating, "beautiful" poops, chatting and chirping, etc - except for the crusty things on their heads that are also covering their eyes 🤦. I've...

    Egg laying/hiding?

My free-range Muscovy ducks (dunno 'bout yours?) are very secretive - they will find the most obscure places to lay/hide their eggs. Places only they and the mongoose can find/reach! And, if the mongoose hasn't eaten the eggs and they hatch it's a race to catch the ducklings before the mongoose...

    Free ranging question…

May we have a photo of The Ladder? I'm always looking for ideas 😜 ...

    Free ranging question…

I think it's personal choice. I pasture-range my two flocks, so they have lots of room to wander about (with trees and places to hide if necessary) but I can't free-range them completely. The predators (aerial and ground) would think it's a buffet. Do what feels right and works for you.
