Can raccoons eat or tear the mesh if they are on the outside of it?? I had thought about that to cozy up against my tree, in the small space between the HWC and the trunk, but I thought a raccoon or possum might eat through it.
I've been thinking about a similar issue here in my own (so far, chickless) yard. Trying to solve problems in my mind, before I solve them on the ground, LOL. The place that I want to make the coop and run has one Korean dogwood tree. Twice a year the tree drops sweet berries that you can make...
Yeah.....I returned that TSC coop for the reason that you mentioned, and because it's too small. I'm going to build a 4x4 Monitor coop, as posted on here by @3KillerBs. I think it's perfect for what I need, with a few minor modifications.
Good advice. I am further refining my plans, and I had originally planned to have a covered 8x8 run attached to the coop by a wire "tunnel", which sounds like what you have. But now I am considering other ways to attach the 2. You are exactly right, tho.... you have to work within the space you...
That first pix, the one off the ground, looks a lot like the Monitor coop 😻 that I'm going to copy, except that its floorspace is twice what I want. Glad it worked out for you...... I think it's going to work for me, too. I only plan to have 4-6 hens, and an 8x8 run, so they should have plenty...
Yeah, I read those same posts and sometimes my eyes pop out when I see things like that. Like you, I'm glad I found these folks who are so generous with their info.
then maybe it WILL count a little, because I had planned to put a big branch in the 8x8x6 run, and maybe some ladder-type things that would give them "options".
I read every word you post, because I am in awe of your monitor coop, and I have enlisted my out of town son to help me with the build. I'm in Greensboro, and I'll probably message you with 100 questions, once we get started. Chicks not til spring, so this will be a process, not an "event".
Does vertical run space count? (cubic feet) For example, if i have an 8x8 enclosed area, that's 64 sq ft. But if it's 6 feet tall with a roof, that's a lot more (in my pea-brain) than an 8x8 run that's only 2 or 3 feet high. So does that figure into the space?
