I'm wondering if they had any water to drink. Newly hatched chicks generally don't know where water is as much as food. It's always a good idea to introduce each chick individually to the water location and dip its beak into it for the first few days. Especially if mama hen is still sitting on...
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
