Thanks for your reply! Yes, we hatched them (RIRs) and they are almost 15 weeks old. I've probably over done the process of keeping them seen yet separated, but I just don't know the best way to introduce them all at different stages because of my kids' fair project with only needing 2...
In advance I'd like to thank you for your advice, ideas, and help!!! Sorry this is a long one 😬
This will be childrens' first official year taking poultry as a 4H project and they are super excited. I'd say we have some experience with chickens (5 plus years), but with the idea of taking...
I noticed my polish had some heavy looking butt feathers this past week. She has this every now and then, so I wasn't too scared to take care of it like I usually do, and when I got around to checking her out today I noticed she had yellowish crust around her vent and a spot just to the left of...
I'm in the same boat as you! I trying to find some sort of treatment to help clear up about the same number of hens in my flock with Bumblefoot. When I've only had a few here and there in years past, I've soaked them in a warm Epsom salt water, followed up with the same treatment as you did...
Thank you for your responses... appreciate it! This hen last year around the same time chose to be an auntie to another broody hen and her three chicks. I thought she was trying to steal the chicks away, but luckily the broody hen had a good bond with the chicks and they just appreciated the...
I have a question and an idea that I wanted to see if anyone has tried this or knows...I have a broody hen (Light Brahma) who's been very committed for the past two weeks and she's happily sitting on eggs officially for the last 7 days. I haven't candle or checked to see if they are developing...
I should mention yesterday I set up the bottom half of a medium sized dog crate and put some straw and eggs in it to see if the potential broody Brahma, who is on the xl size of hens, would sit on them, and last night and all day she's been on the eggs. With my kids checking every now and then...
I recently ordered 5 buff orpington chicks and they are a week old today. When getting them set up in their brooder some of my other hens were nosey and checked out what I was doing. I noticed my Brahma hen that was broody around this time last year was very concerned about the chicks. The...

These handsome fellas are a little over 10 weeks old and beginning to test their vocal chords. I would like to rehome them since we already have a rooster in the flock. They were raised by a broody hen and she's done a wonderful job teaching and...
These handsome fellas are a little over 10 weeks old and beginning to test their vocal chords. I would like to rehome them since we already have a rooster in the flock. They were raised by a broody hen and she's done a wonderful job teaching and showing them how to be "free rangers". They are...
It must be contagious! 😝. Good luck!
I also have an Easter Egger that has been broody, but I am trying to break her of it with wired crate. If I can't in the next few days maybe I'll let her sit on some eggs. 🤦♀️🙃
Well I'm happy to report that Ms. Broody Brahma and baby chicks are doing great! Introduced them a week ago and she's one great momma! 😁 Super fun to watch them explore and communicate with each other. Definitely will do this again in the future. Thanks!
Thanks Mrs. K! I will get some chicks and give it a try. Also just wondering should I keep the chicks and Ms. Broody Brahma in a separate area within my coop and if so for how long?
**update**
I let Ms. Broody Brahma sit on some eggs, but none of them were fertile. I double checked again last night at day 17 and nothing was seen while candling. 😞
Wondering at this point if I should gather more eggs and hope they are fertile. But is it healthy for her to be sitting on...
Thanks for your suggestion. I let her out today to just see if the 10th time (I'm being dramatic) she would be ready to return to the flock, but just checked on them and she's in a nesting box and gets all broody when I reach for the eggs. If I try your idea this evening, should I put Ms...
