Thank you! It is a bit swollen and she is limping, but I don’t think it’s too far progressed. Should I try to get the little “kernel” out after soaking, or just try the ointment without trying to get anything out?
I’ve attached a photo of bumblefoot I discovered today. I’ve never had a chicken with bumblefoot before, so I’m uncertain how to tell if I will need to remove it with a scalpel, or if soaking and wrapping daily will allow it to heal.
OH and also..... which of these recommended treatments can I do at the same time? Like, can they have copper sulfate in their water while they are also receiving oral anti fungal meds (we ordered some of the nystatin powder that doesn't require prescription)?
Thank you for your replies! I was looking at several other strings on vent gleet and I saw comments from you on many of them - it's clear you are very knowledgeable, so I appreciate the quick responses :) Hopefully we can get these girls feeling better!
In your experience, how long can they be...
Thank you. I think they may have been eating moldy food off the bottom of their run before I started helping out, but we've dug out all the old wet stuff and replaced the run with lots of fresh dry bedding bedding. I know the food itself coming out of the bags is fresh, we got it from a local...
I’m helping my neighbor with their chickens. They have several that appear to have vent gleet. A few have cleared up pretty well with treatment but a few don’t seem to be making a ton of progress. It’s been a little over a week. Is there any chance it’s something else or there is anything I’m...
Thank you for your response! We will just plan to keep them apart for quite awhile, as everyone gets healthier and happier, then reintroduce them as strangers in the spring along with careful monitoring.
Thank you for your reply!
I did not mention that we also helped with extra space. They have been overcrowded (in my opinion), since they were chicks. It seemed at every stage they were way too big for their home and my friend could never keep up with giving them enough space. So I told the...
My friends have been having some substantial problems with their flock and we are stepping in to help out. We discovered the hens are killing each other, as well as a number suffering from vent gleet. Most of them are missing some or all of their butt and tail feathers. I’ve helped them make a...
Our first hen laid her first egg today, or possibly yesterday late afternoon. We think it was early this morning. She laid it from a perch and it broke on the ground so we threw it away, but now she is sitting in a nesting box, and has tucked a fake egg underneath her. I think she believes it's...
We have a .75 acre pond on our property and it's like..... RIGHT there. In our yard. Haha. Hence why I can't imagine we won't have trouble with weasels at some point. We also have hawks. And I saw a mink the other day. Raccoon prints and poo on our deck a few weeks ago. And then there's the fox...
