    Who's laying these eggs?

Swedish Blues are a cross breed - Svart Hona/Isbar - and relatively new from what I understand, so I wanted to hear what other keepers have found with colour consistency.

    Who's laying these eggs?

I've been collecting these little cream coloured eggs since I added my new Black Mottled Orpingtons to the flock. One of the larger girls, Agatha (June hatch, left in picture), laid when they were all separate so I know her eggs. Then I got a similar egg from her sister with less bloom. And then...

Good to know. And hatching for yourself is definitely fun! Plus, from what I understand, far fewer diseases can pass to the egg than to a chick so it's a good biosecurity measure.

I just got started with them myself this year and tell your son they're worth it. Pirate loves people and is the sweetest of all the breeds we hatched out this year (Black Copper Marans, Cream Legbar, Crevecoeur, Swedish Blue). She/he actually cuddles. If you pick him/her up and put her in the...

    Appenzeller Barthuhner Thread!

I incubated 14 eggs and only ended up with one hatching. Late in the season, less fertility. Maybe next Spring I'll do better Unfortunately it has one tiny eye. So we named it Pirate. I only had one Crevecoeur hatch at the same time so they have become friends and look after each...

DC Heritage in Quebec, Canada has them. Out of the 14 eggs I ordered only one hatched, and she has one eye smaller than the other. But it was late in the season, September and the replacement eggs hatched in October, so fertility is naturally lower. She refunded me eggs that didn't hatch though...

What constitutes a good breeding program?

Thanks for that information! I've read about spiral breeding and how that's the best way within a small flock to produce good healthy lines.

What constitutes a good breeding program?

I got the book, and you're right it's great. But I'm trying to find good healthy stock to start my breeding program knowing I'll run into difficulty with the small breeding pool. I'm going to try looking around more and possibly try to get some posted to me from the States. I like the hatching...

What constitutes a good breeding program?

They were shipped. I left them to sit for 24 hours and candled them to make sure all of the air sacks were back on top before I put them in the incubator. None of the eggs were scrambled.

What constitutes a good breeding program?

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure how things work shipping across the border to Canada? I'm in Ontario.

What constitutes a good breeding program?

Ouch! Predators suck. I really wanted Crevecouer and so I advertised and a lady got in touch with me that she had them. I asked her specifically about what kind of fertility rate she expects and she said they're awesome. Out of the first 10 eggs 2 hatched, both had herniated yolks and wry neck...

What constitutes a good breeding program?

A question for anyone out there breeding rare or threatened breeds off of the Livestock Conservancy list... What constitutes a good breeding program? I understand that depending on the breed there will be limited genetics to work with. That can lead to some quirks and deformities; there may be...
