Wow - I was just searching trying to figure out what my hen is & she looks a LOT like yours! I'll try to remember to post a pic of her. Thanks for posting! I was wondering if mine was a bantam Minorca too!
I love all the pics! Aren't they fun to photograph? My Orloff girls always try to jump up and attack the camera when I try to pcitures of them - they like to be fully involved - lol!
Great pictures - they are adorable!
Every time I've tried to take pictures of my girls, they come up and start pecking at the camera - they are super nosy!!
Happy New Year Everyone!!!!
LOL - I have two Orloff hens and they are not odd-balls at all! Of course, the fact that they were raised as babies at the same time as my "accidental" rooster arrived didn't hurt them at all. He treats them and one other hen that he was raised with as his special girls and harrasses all of the...

Love the picture with the kitty checking them out - too funny!! My two barn kitties are always hanging out with the chickens - not sure what they would do if they got that close to babies though...

That's a good broody face
too funny! I was just laughing thinking how crazy all of the hens look when they are broody or have new chicks - you can tell they take it sooo seriously! Gotta love it

The Momma and babies are adorable! That really encourages me since Lola is a first time Mom also. I think she still has about 7 days to go!!! She is still hanging in there & I finally got a chance to see take a peek at the eggs when she took a short food break. There are 5 eggs...
Wow - they are adorable!
Funny update on how my first time hatch is going:
I wrote about 11 days ago that my 7 month old little black hen (not sure what breed - she wasn't what I ordered) went broody. She has been doing great & had picked the barn cats igloo to lay in.
I was doing chores...
LOL - I have become obsessed with reading these posts!!
I am so excited about the possibility of babies :-) Lola is still sitting tight & I have no idea how many eggs are underneath her. She is a fairly small hen & she is keeping them all covered. She is inside of the barn cat's igloo which...

I would either let her hatch some, or put her in jail to break the broody. Jail is isolated with no nesting materials for 1-3 days.
if it's her first try she may not go though with the whole thing anyway. Go ahead and let her try. It won't hurt her or the babies. If she actually...
thanks - that is all I needed to hear!!
If you get a chance - could you explain to me how you respond to my questions with the box in your link that shows my previous question. (hope that makes sense)
I am so excited about the BYC forum - its wonderful to have all this chicken knowledge at...
thanks for the quick reply! I guess my main concern is the cold weather. I've never had a hen hatch eggs, so would adding the cold winter weather to the mix be a really bad idea? Should I move her and the eggs into the house at some point? Will she be ok in the barn? (we have really cold...
This is my first post - hopefully it will appear in the right spot - if not - that's why ;-)
I have a small black hen - I thought she was a Sumatra, but as she's gotten a little older she now has small white spots on her cheeks, so not sure of that.
Anyways - she is a laying-machine. I went...
