2 week olds not sleeping under heat?

As long as they have warmer and cooler areas to go to they’ll do their own thing. I have found over the years that as long as there is a place to get warm when they want it, baby chicks don’t seem to require quite as much temperature control from YOU as it first seems when you start reading up...

    Chicks at Day 8

    Very cute!

    Chicken math is calling!

Well if she is near the end you’d better make sure she has a couple extra eggs to sit on just in case they are the last chicks she’ll hatch. (This is often a very overlooked calculation in chicken calculus)

It depends on where you go. Tsc requires 4 minimum- I think they are in on the whole chicken math conspiracy

    Guesses? One week old.

Thank you so much!! For a moment there I was starting to think they were frogs-the spring peeper varieties.😆😆😆 lol. This was the only chick in the whole group at the feed store that had the dark spot on her head like that and her feathers are coming in wonderfully patterned. I just can’t seem...

Coop run for free range hens?

I personally would not put the run next to the house, my chickens actually seek out the side of the house while free ranging to sunbathe in the heat that radiates off the siding, and in the process dig deep holes next to the house and kick all sorts of dust up onto the siding(the dirt is usually...

How to know if my chick is dying?

If it is struggling to even lift its head that doesn’t sound good, I’ve hear people try sugar water to perk chicks up, but honestly that has never worked for me.

    Chicken math is calling!

Ah yes, the wormhole phenomenon, we had that briefly but ours dropped off goats. Had to quickly block that though as I found out I’m allergic. And Goat knows I’m allergic and resents me for it as if I had anything to do with it!

    Chicken math is calling!

Purple leg bad is a perfectly acceptable name for a bird! My very first chickens were named things like Big Bird, Little Bird, Red bird, Yellow Bird, etc. and honestly they were the easiest of all the birds I’ve had to remember who was who. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Chicken math is calling!

I believe the key word here is EXPECTED. Might want to think about adding a few just to make sure you get what you are looking for. Ok I know I’m an enabler- I’m working on it, I promise.

    Chicken math is calling!

I saw that the local humane society had a pair of ducks and a pair of day old chicks get turned in today and man how I wished I had been there to snatch them!😆

    Chicken math is calling!

Yay! How exciting. I do like to have the Roos around, (at least one). It’s so comical to see him race across the yard when someone starts singing the egg song!

    Chicken math is calling!

Thankfully the bugs are not quite that bad at my place…it might have to do with the fact that I have convinced neighbors to have their own natural pest control units installed…

    Chicken math is calling!

Yep. Definitely time to set more eggs! And chicken math does get exponentially more complicated when you factor in hatching your own! The formula I used for hatching my own went something like this: I want 3 hens, if I incubate I might have up to a 50% loss rate, so I need to set at least 6...
