3 Delaware $18 for all. Delaware hens lay large-XLrg brown eggs. Known for laying in winter.

So sorry I haven't replied; have been recooperating. You have probably hatched eggs in your bator by now, as have I. My modifications worked fine; hope yours did too. Seems to me the hole over the fan is to drawn air into it.
In order to make it easier to add water to my Hova Bator 1588, I rotated the top so the air vent is closer to the water troughs' fill wells. I can now poke a plastic tube down through the air vent and over to the wells or sponge to add water without lifting the top or disturbing eggs. The...
I love gardening too!! My raised beds are made with locust logs (they will outlast me). Every time I go grocery shopping I get cardboard boxes with no print (or just black print) on them. These are taken apart and put down on the paths as weed barriers. I also cut spaced holes in cardboard to...
I have heard if you pick a chick up (gently!) by the back "scruff of the neck" that the females will kick and settle down, but the males will put up more of a fight. I have tried this and it seems to work most of the time. Do you think this works?
I only have experience with one homemade incubator and one recycled HovaBator. I got used computer fans free from the local PC repair store. (covered them with hardware cloth to protect chicks)
One incubator was a rectangle styrofoam box I think probably came from a florest shop. It was about...
My Dels interacted more with us when they were young - we handled them a lot, and they perched on us and followed us around. We never fed them out of our hands after they were 5 or 6 weeks old. As they got older they got more independent. One roo had to be held down every couple days to keep him...
I sell a dozen of mixed egg colors, medium to large size eggs, for $3.50. (You'd be surprised how many people ask if I colored the blue and green eggs!!) I too use recycled egg cartons; just put a new collection date on them.
Right now our family consists of a little red hen (large brown egg)...
Here are a few of my Delawares checking out their run after a big rain. They are sometimes more aggressive, or maybe just more sure of themselves, than my Americauna, EEs, and BAs. A Del rooster I had once before was particularly aggressive, and even tried to kill a dominant BA hen. Because I...
