Options for replacing an old rooster

My immediate goal is to replace this old rooster and breed a new generation of hens since a large portion of my flock needs to be retired as they are 4-5 years old. I'm not looking to breed to poultry show perfection but I do want my cream legbars to be good layers and have good carcass size...

Options for replacing an old rooster

Thus far I haven't kept any roosters with curled toes for breeders, just stating that the issue was with a few of their male siblings. The cross between my current old rooster and the hens from Bresse farms didn't result in any curled toes. I haven't quite decided which of the 4 I would keep if...

Options for replacing an old rooster

Hey everyone, I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a rooster that is 4 years old that I would like to replace with some younger blood and I'm not quite sure what route I should take. I have 4 roosters that are his offspring that are 6 months old that could potentially fill the position. For context...

Best Place to Buy Quality Dorking and Buckeye Chicks?

I don't think we have yet. If you still have some eggs from a quality breeding line that would be fantastic as my order with Sandhill Preservation Farm fell through this year.

Best Place to Buy Quality Dorking and Buckeye Chicks?

I am located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I could take a day trip drive there and back but that would be as far as I could go.

Best Place to Buy Quality Dorking and Buckeye Chicks?

I believe you're right. However I'm a bit hesitant to order from a large scale hatchery because quality control may have been sacrificed in favor of mass production.

Best Place to Buy Quality Dorking and Buckeye Chicks?

I'm looking for a quality breeder of Dorking and Buckeye Chicks. My plan is to have quality brood stock so I can breed my own chicks year after year for the farm I work for.

    Building A Churkey(Turkey Imposter)

Unfortunately you're going to run into that a lot with some of the massive breeds like JG and Brahmas. Have you thought about the "Delaware Broiler" from Murray Hatchery? Apparently they're Delaware chickens selectively bred for massive body size and decently quick maturation as a heritage...

Who's My Mummy: Hybrid Rooster Help

I have an unintended hybrid rooster I hatched earlier this year that I would love some help trying to identify his mother. His father was a pure bred Crested Cream Legbar. His mother I know lays blue/green eggs same as the pure bred Cream Legbar hens (hence why I'm in this predicament 😂). Here...

    Building A Churkey(Turkey Imposter)

I know Jersey Giants were created with the intent of being turkey replacements (which sadly didn't pan out because they mature much more slowly than a meat turkey). Have you thought about using them?

    New Mexico

Hey so there are some chickens that I helped care for as part of a farming internship in the South Valley that are currently in need of a new home as there aren't enough people around to care for them all with the whole Covid situation. Anyone up for adding a few chickens to their flock? A few...

In about 2-3 years, I'll be creating a new Breed of chicken called the Emerald Dragon.(Discussion)

@MysteryChicken there are some chickens who I cared for during a farming internship program when I was getting into chicken keeping that are now in need of new homes as with Covid there aren't enough people around to care for them all. One of them is a rooster named Valentine who I have already...

I know there's such a thing as a creole orpington, what would make a wheaten creole orpington different?

    Ayam Cemani crosses

Welcome! I can't speak from personal experience what crosses would be most ideal but @MysteryChicken might be able to offer suggestions. In my opinion the best Ayam Cemani crosses would be with salmon Favorelles, americauna, sicilian buttercup, brahmas, jersey giants, dunccle, or the cochins.
