Trouble integrating young chickens with slightly older chickens

Following that thread as I'm experiencing integration issues for the first time (the previous times all went smoothly). The main issue on my side is that i'm unable to modify the mobile coop in a way the young ones could roost separately (i live in a cold weather area, moving the mobile coop...

    Skittish girls

Yes, that's what i've been doing for now over a week. In the past, when i've added new members, it only took 2 to 3 days for them to understand. That's why right now i'm a bit confused by what to do. I don't think they don't understand what they should do (after all they went once by...

    Skittish girls

Thanks. Sadly, due to shape and size of my mobile coop, the barrier part seems very complicated to put in place. I'm also convinced there is no more drama overnight by now. The issue currently is really a matter of convincing them to get back inside at night...

    Skittish girls

Yes, 6 birds. We used to have 6 already at some point but in the last year, 2 had to be culled sadly(1 tumor and 1 egg periotinitis). The coop is a small mobile coop, 120cm wide x 190cm deep and 120cm high inside. Livin in a part of Europe where nice days are not many, and winter quite harsh...

    Skittish girls

Hi, I have 2 new girls that are now 18 weeks and pretty much the same size than the older ones. They went through the normal 'introduction', spending weeks in an adjacent pen where everybody could watch each over, and slow introduction to the flock composed of 4 older girls. 2 of the older ones...

Older hen not going in the coop at night since change in the flock

Definitely not lost her pecking rank :) I know for sure she's not scared of them but i reckon mostly annoyed of those 2 replacing her best friend in the coop... I've started to block the nest box at night with a 'door/flap' held with simple hooks, but the new girls managed somehow to pop it out...

    Hens ears turning white

To my knowledge, unless it's sort of 'crusty' and/or appears on the comb or somewhere else as well, I don't think there's anything to worry about. My girls have had that same thing for 2 years, it's more obvious on the gray feathered one than on the brown girls, but they're all perfectly fine

Older hen not going in the coop at night since change in the flock

At this point, they all get along rather well, but of course still putting in place the pecking order with the new girls. Jane is currently number 2 in the order. Nothing harsh though, regular charging or little peck once in a while, and i've seen them eat or stand next to each others without...

Older hen not going in the coop at night since change in the flock

Hi, about 2 weeks ago, I unfortunately had to euthanise one of our hens due health issues. Her best friend in the flock, Jane, about 2.5 years old, has been grieving her. We have added 2 new hens who are a bit under 4 months old. The transition in the pen has been going fairly well, however...

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

They are not molting at the moment. But I'm not sure regarding being broody. The one who lost her voice tends to take her time in the nest box, definitely longer than the others but I wouldn't be able to tell if she's actually broody. Also because sh'es been like this from the beginning

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

Yes, I read about this. But their pen isn't really dusty at this time of the year, and I clean their house every week, and as far as i know, our neighbours didn't make any fire in their garden around the time she lost her voice. If there is a respiratory illness, I assume after 3 weeks there...

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

Thanks a lot. I know it's really strange, cause i've checked everything I could find about a hen losing her voice, but the total lack of other signs or symptoms makes it really intriguing.

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

Thanks. She's young, about 7 months now

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

After 2weeks of apple cider vinegar or echinacea in the water, she's slowly getting her voice back. Still zero sign of anything else. She's been laying , eating and acting as normal. No obvious crop issue to me, no discharge from nose or eyes, no apparent breathing issue, nothing... i'm a bit...

Quiet/lost voice but no other symptoms - what to do?

Hi, don't know if it's the right section for this, but we noticed yesterday that one of our girls seems to have lost her voice. She basically clucks but it's a bit muted, fairly quiet. She has been doing that same sound sometimes when we pet her but since yesterday it's the only kind of sound...
