I'm not much help in the who-done-it area, but I'm celebrating with you.
We got the first egg from our new flock (Friday will be 20 weeks).
This is from a Black Plymouth Rock.
Thank you for the advice.
Yes they have a coop. The coop has a 6ft x 3 ft footprint with essentially three levels.
Level 1 (on the ground) is open on two sides (North and West) and enclosed on the other two. It is between 18 inches and 2 ft tall and was designed to give the girls a place...
After a couple of days separated she's not bleeding any more. I've been contemplating letting the flock roam the yard today and introducing her during that roam. That way they're less stressed as she is re-introduced. Bonus is that it'll be easier to intervene because I don't have to deal...
So the consensus is all pullets. That's a relief in one way and a difficulty in another. One of our ladies has become the target of a lot of aggression. We've removed her from the flock and have her in a side pen (40in x 28in wire dog crate) alongside the main pen because she was bleeding...
And more pics of Bird 2 (Black) ...and introducing Bird 3 (Grey).
I was just noticing on these pictures how much these two seem to look alike in their stance and conformation. Now I'm concerned we may have 3 or 4 more roosters who just haven't started showing as much yet.
Okay Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm back. Now two of my Black Plymouth Rocks are starting to act and look like they may be roosters.
Yesterday they started beating on one of my Ameraucana's. Pecked her tail bloody before my son got her out. We separated her for the day and tried to re-introduce...
Thank you all for the assessment. We were pretty sure at this point. He's actually come into what I suspect may be his full voice in the last few days. His volume has increased to between 2 and 3 times what it was 5 days ago.
Now for the harder question. What do I do with this rooster...
Rancho Sundown.
I thought I had posted pictures. I was editing the original post because I found another good angle on Red. Can you see them now?
Thanks
Heyhey is the other chick that we are now unsure of. Red picks on him/her an inordinate amount so we're concerned that maybe it's another roo who just isn't as dominant.
Good afternoon all,
We've got 4 of 12 week old Ameraucanas. 2 of them have looked and acted very similarly until about 2 weeks back when Red decided to start crowing.
At this point we're pretty sure Red is a roo and city ordinances say we can't keep a roo. So we're looking for some...
Hello all,
New chicken owners here...again. We had a flock for a couple of years about 5 years ago. We started with 6 and lost two before we re-homed them because we were preparing to move. It has taken us a few years to get our new flock going again.
We have 2 human boys and a german...
