I have 14 sexlink chickens 9 hens and 5 roosters(FREE) :) They are now 9 weeks old are they too young to cull? They look big enough but I am afraid they will be too small after I pluck them. I was going to wait a few more weeks to cull them, but fights are starting to erupt in the coop and run...
thanks for that info. much appreciated. I split the coop into 2 sections as was my plan to have a storage area and I added a bunch of roosts they are now on the roosts sleeping good. I still may turn the night light back on as we have lots of wildlife around here. and things make noises at night...
Just go to tractor supply and buy a dog run for 1/4 of the price and add a top, those prices seem awfully high to me. I have roughly $300 into my coop and run and my coop is 8`x12` 6` high
Just an update,, it has been over a week now without a light and they are still perching (sleeping) in corner all bunched up together. I don't mind but I am afraid one is going to suffucate
I have my coop about 100` from house. It is setup a way to allow maximum light till dark. They are only fed inside of new coop until they get good and ready for treats outside of coop. They know where "Home" is, they use it all day long to eat, drink and get out of weather (we had quite a few...
I have been trying to keep the chickens in the dark, BUT they all huddle in the corner, I then turn on a night light and they seem to relax and go sleep on the perch, Should I just let them suffer a night or two all huddled up together or keep turning on a 5 wat night light for them, any harm in...
Well I would have taken more, a farmer was giving it away for free to make room for this years cutting. If only I had a place to store it right now it's taking up to much room in my garage can't get anything out lol.
I use chipped/ shredded hay, I just got an awesome deal on 24 bails of hay for FREE!!!! So that is what I use, I pre-shred it to make composting easier when it's time to clean it. They chickens love to scratch through it as well. I don't use anything for there run as it is 30`x40` We don't have...
The way I designed my coop and run my will have a chance to venture out in the rain, snow, cold etc. I have a bottom access door and will leave it open during the day and close it at night, what they do is up to them. I also have my run in the lawn and the woods so they have protection from alot...

The chickens have been in there new coop for about a week now. I have all the walls, windows, doors and roof on, just need to finish up trim work, but it is livable for them, they seem to enjoy it except for night time, they seem to be scared for some reason. Here are a few pics of...
