1 day old unable to use 1 leg

Kinda sorta but not really. He was walking fine yesterday when he hatched...once he got his land legs that is... I uploaded the photos so you should be able to view now. I guess I should do some wound treatment and see how that goes. Any suggestions on what I should use?

1 day old unable to use 1 leg

He/she doesn't really stand, mostly squats using wing to stabilize. I looked a little further and there seems to be a cut or some type of injury. The leg you can see in the picture with her squatting is the affected leg. Looking at the close up, the outside of the leg has a "knot" and there...

1 day old unable to use 1 leg

I noticed the first hatched chick today having trouble keeping his/her balance. This chick was in one of the smallest eggs in the incubator (not a bantam) and filled the egg. It was full of life and energy running around in the incubator trying to "wake" the rest of the eggs and I was thrilled...

    Broody ? .... Yet another....

Oh for sure! With the behavior that she has been showing the past couple of days I knew I would have to have a Plan B...just in case. She has never raised chicks and is 4yrs old. She's been broody before and I'm not sure if she knows her clock is ticking or if the 6 wk olds has set her off...

    Broody ? .... Yet another....

Lol...I'm ok with a designated spot for her and her baby. I just need the rest of the coop to calm down. I have 6 wk olds in there and everything was fine until.... Thank you so much for the confirmation. I appreciate it! Heading to TSC for a baby..or 3 :-)

    Broody ? .... Yet another....

Curious....can you give a chick to a broody without her having sat on eggs? My broody is making the coop miserable and on high alert! She has turned into a bully beast! Would love to give her a chick :-)

    Possibly Egg Bound??

Thank you Brookiejo. Unfortunately she's not egg bound. I've handled that in the past. I'm 98% sure that my girl has egg yolk peritonitis. Thank you for the response though. It's looking pretty grim for my girl at this point.

    Possibly Egg Bound??

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm curious if you've ever encountered this? She's received a good dose of antibiotics over a 24hr period but I'm not seeing much, if any, improvement. I'm asking because I'm not sure how long I should wait before I make the decision to ease her pain. I don't...

    Possibly Egg Bound??

Eggcessive, Thank you so much for that information. I am convinced that she has egg yolk peritonitis. I started her on an antibiotic this evening. One of the videos I watched suggested giving her Duramycin 10 but Tractor Supply was out of it and suggested I contact there competitor and see...
