    chicken has cough

    I have 53 chickens, pasture-raised, very healthy except one has a cough. Can I give it an injectable penicillin, i.e. Tylan 50 or something else, so I can just treat that one chicken versus powder in the water that affects all the chickens. I tried Vet RX which is only symptomatic.

    coughing/congestion 12 week old new pullet

    We just bought a 12 week old Americana pullet who is coughing and congested. We have her in an isolated mobile coop and started her on Sulmet (sulfamethazine sodium 12.5%) in her drinking water. IS there any better medication we could use?? Thanks guys.

    Yes, I now suspect avian pox. I live in Florida, warm and humid, lots of mosquitos. I have about 50 chickens, I only see the "scab" formation on one bird so far on her waddle. The article on backyardchickens helped the most. I'll keep monitoring, boost their immune. Eggs still good to eat...

    I have like 30 Rhode Island Reds about 7 months old. The tip of the red waddle is turning black and kind of crusty and puffy on one of the birds. Otherwise the birds seem healthy. ???
