    Well it's about time but he turned out to be a girl! Laid first egg today! Lots smaller than my full size girls.

    As far as we can tell we are leaning torwards a hen. I have yet to get a smaller egg they are seem to be the same size as my barred rock eggs. She hangs around nests all the time. Acts manly sometimes and other times not. It will be interesting when spring comes around to see if she starts to lay.

    I don't think she has given us eggs yet. I haven't seen a small egg yet. All I have is standard barred rocks with the one cochin. At 31 weeks this is what she looks like now. How old is a bantam cochin when they lay?

    My still unknown gender cochin is 26 weeks and look where I found it! In a nest box. Never laid an egg today but We will see what tomorrow bring! She also squatted for me last night. So unless roosters do this I think we have a hen.

    Just talked to the manager he assured me that if my flock looked healthy they should be fine. And if I am too concerned to get them tested. He never really answered my exact question.

    My chickens are healthy looking as well and have healthy clean conditions. Privetthatchery has definitely not provided much info. So I have been doing research as well and can't find an answer to one of my questions, do baby chicks that carry salmonella grow out of it if kept in good conditions...

    Ya she was tested and the center of disease control contacted us and told us the strain and then yesterday we were notified it was from the hatchery as it was the exact same strain and that is where our chicks came from. Do chickens show sickness when they carry or have salmonella?

    My chicks were affected. Back in march and got my 18 month baby so sick. She was in the hospital for 4 days. So do my older girls still carry it or did they grow out of it? They are laying eggs now

    my 2 year old got salmonella this spring and it was that strain. She was hospitalized for 4 days. She was really sick. We got 8 chicks from that hatchery in March.

    One of my new layers laid its egg in their shallow bowl of water outside on the run. Everyone else seems to use the nests. What was she thinking?
