They all have straw bedding in their coop that I freshen up daily, but outside is very icy by their water basins, so he's been walking on that for a while which maybe isn't helping. Do you think soaking them would still be a good idea? Or would it be ok to leave them be and try to soften up his...
Hello all!
I've been doing some research regarding this spot on my runner duck's feet. He has it on the outer sides of both of his feet, in the same place, and I've noticed the area looking a bit puffed for a while now, but it's never been jarringly bad looking. I finally wrangled him today to...
Final update #3!
In case anyone was curious what the healing process looked like, it hardened up really fast and is now looking good. I didn't have to do anything and it healed up on its own while I kept a constant eye on it.
Thanks so much for the advice on here! I appreciate this community's...
Update #2 in case anyone was curious!
I sent a few of the photos to his vet yesterday for their input, and they said it looks like it's going through the healing process and seems pretty healthy at the moment which is a relief. They told me to keep an eye on it though, and if anything changes...
Okay things have changed a bit since I posted here... it now looks like it's becoming soft and sinking into the beak like a hole. I'm a little more worried. He's been in the water and mud constantly the past few days because of the heat wave, so could it be the water has softened it up to this...
Thanks so much for the reply, I really appreciate it! I'll definitely inspect his outdoor and indoor area and check for any suspicious spots tomorrow. I have four boys and yet it's always this one that gets into the most trouble 🙄
Hi everyone! I haven't been on here in a while, but I need some imput from more experienced bird people. I noticed this the other day on my runner duck and I was able to wrangle him for a photo tonight. Is this something I should worry a lot about like an infection, or more likely aftermath from...
I'll try to feel his feathers tomorrow! They have access every day to their own large water bucket/container outside, and usually bathe multiple times a day in it. I change the water daily. Its big enough for them to float when full of water and turn around to clean themselves. I'm sure they...
Hello!
My runner boys have being going through molting the past couple of weeks, and one of them looks the roughest of all by a lot (he was like that as a duckling as well, so I think his default is to look like bad taxidermy unfortunately) BUT, yesterday I noticed what looked like lice in the...
Excited wasn't an emotion I had thought of! There wasn't anything out of the ordinary I could see, but I'll have to check out the area tomorrow and keep that in mind. They definitely aren't acting predator level scared.
We had a huge rain storm last night and the weather got colder and windy as...
I'm wondering if any more experienced duck folk could tell me what these guys are doing?
This is a google drive link to the video (It wouldn't upload it here, sorry) [video link]
From my perspective it seems like they're anxious and frantically looking in multiple directions back and forth...
Last update for a bit (hopefully 🤞)
Now that the sudden cold snap has passed, they're out in the sunshine enjoying the warm weather and having baths in their jail partitions (lol)
The two I'm keeping together still squabble every so often, but they're not hurting each other very badly and I...
That's on my list once I get the bigger things sorted! To try and avoid that problem in the meantime, I switched up the rooming arrangements tonight; I put the 2 buddies that pick fights with the big duck in the enclosed part of the coop, and so far it looks like the big duck and the more...
