Yes. You can rent them Spring to Fall. They supply hens, coop, feed and litter and nesting pads. You keep eggs. We did this program to start us up and to see if was something we could do. You have option to buy chickens. We bought chickens from them first year. So we had to return coop and we...
I have 3 hens, an Easter Egger and 2 Golden Comets. One Golden Comet laid a soft mushy egg, then a month later an egg a little larger than a quail egg. She otherwise is healthy, eats very well, is the alpha, so had to take the other Golden Comet out because she bullied her but not the Easter...
Hey, lost girls (3 quail and 2 Golden Comet hens) to summer heat of 2024, and decided to start again Spring 2025. New Year 2025 until last month, I had serious medical issues, am just able to resume some activities and I just saw this post. Glad to be back to BYC, We did get 3 hens, but not quail.
I am having the same problem with my 4 hens. They are in separate pens because of aggressive behavior by all of them. 1 hen started laying eggs with a lot of Bloom, then almost white to gray eggs. Then some of the eggs were very soft. She even layed 2 eggs a day about 3-4 times this year. Last...
I usually leave the eggs on the counter unwashed until ready to use, then I wash them to cook. Washed and boiled then egg stayed the same. The dog had no complaints.. :)
Thank you. The quail eggs are nice and glossy. I was surprised the first time I saw them, as if someone had polished them. When we gift the eggs we have a note telling ppl the eggs are not washed. Wash before refrigerating or leave on counter unwashed. Someone will always say anyway, but these...
I must make a correction to my original post: Golden Comets are the breed of my chickens, the quail are the JMF Jumbo Browns. Don't know if that clarifies or helps.
@Whiskybear Yes, I'm interest too. I didn't know so much cross breeding went on with quails to get certain colors, so a throw back could be a possibility. I wasn't interested in the genetics until this and don't know if Golden Comets is a accepted breed name or a local breeder name. I'm just...
Thank you, @Nabiki. Do you know the reason? We feed them crushed chicken eggs once a week. The eggs is normal except the color, not brittle. Haven't cracked it out as of yet. Guess I'm a little skittish after finding out about chicken "Lash Eggs" from one of the chicken posts.
I have 4 JMF Jumbo Brown Quail, caged, as probably know, one of these ladies put out this odd colored egg. I call it a "Ghost Egg" because it's a dusty blue-gray. I have no idea which did, can't tell which is laying which patterns yet. This is the only one so far. They are 11 weeks old and lay...
Thank you, @theoldchick. That was most informative (TMI - just kidding)! Wow, very informative. I pray @barnbum7 finds which chicken is laying the lash egg and gets help before its too late.
