I have a secure coop AND covered run I let them out to free range for about 4 hrs a day. That is only time I have issues with predators. I don't see a way to keep hen and babies in and others out.
I really believe it is eagle(s). I have succesfully saved several bantams from the eagle, The bantam would see the threat and run to the porch and would either make it or be very close and I would hear ruckus and come flying out and hawk/eagle would fly away. Also saved buff orp from an eagle...
So I am just fine buying chicks from feedstore, but DS 10 is dedicated to hatching out with
our broody hens. So we have done it 2x now with not a lot of sucess.
It's not that they don't hatch, its that after the hen and chicks go out and about they get picked off one by one by outside...
Have a mixed flock of large fowl hens in a coop with a rooster and 7 bantams in a tractor with a roo. Have 25 babies in the brooder.
So I have a smallish egg business selling the large fowl eggs to people at my gym. We use the bantam eggs ourselves. At the end of summer last year I had a...
Yes that does sound like a rat. I had a rat problem in the past and they got thru a 1" gap between my back door and bottom of coop floor. They only got the younger guys that were not on the roost bars. I then found evidence of burrows and holes. I put rat poison DEEP into the holes and then...
I'd just like to somehow see it harder for people with mental illness to aquire guns. How I don't know, but clearly mentally ill people and guns is a disastrous mix. It often comes out in the aftermath that they had some kind of mental illness, and yet had they had NO problem getting guns.
I...
This I found to be true. We ended up with a german shepard cross puppy about 3 years ago.She was a castoff. I am NOT a dog lover, but the kids and dh had wanted a dog for a long time. I had been resistant, but caved. As puppy grew she went thru about a 6 month period of "playing" with my...
We have almost 7 acres. About half is a small mountain(large rocky hill). We put 20% down and got a 30 yr mortgage. We are 10 years in. House is about 2500 sq ft. 3 years ago we had the mountain logged. I have a neighbor who inherited his 6 acres when his mother died and he is a retired...
Oh and I don't know if this is related or not, but as i've said I've had her a while, and we changed vets 3x in 12 years. A few years ago the new vet said she had a heart murmer and I had never been told that before. He told me as they age it's more noticable in older horses. So the heart murmur...
I really don't think it's allergies because I've had her 12 or 13 years, and this is a SUDDEN this spring thing. But it was the coolest week so far since April and I have heard a noticed difference in the coughing. She's coughing LESS in the cooler weather.
Vet is coming out Next wed or...
I have a 22 yr old morab. I've had her for 13 years. She has been an easy keeper. Great all around trail horse/games horse. She's been passed down thru the family and now my 9 yr old son has been riding her for last 2 years. She's SOUND, which I felt like was quite a feat as most horses I keep...
Kids start back today, and though we had a great summer, I am glad they go back! I am a school crossing guard so it will be great to go back to 2 paychecks AND have the more rigid structure. Been hard to get to the gym 5 days a week around thier schedule. When they are in school, i just go right...
If this needs to be in food i'm sorry. So I googled a lot about them. i have had the house for almost 10 yrs. Now realize I have a hickory nut tree that drops TONS of nuts literally outside my front door. Anyway when I google it says they are supposed to drop in early fall. They are dropping...
