Kill cone for large muscovy ducks

Thank you, this is very helpful. I currently do similar to what you do, but without the wrapping (I sort of hold them with my knees, it's hard to describe). Do you think the cone makes a big difference to the speed with which they bleed out, or keeping them calm? I'll try with a large jug if I'm...

Kill cone for large muscovy ducks

Hi, We've been processing our grown muscovy ducks, and my current method is not very efficient. I would like to make a cone for my ducks, as the ones I've seen are too small (I've killed turkeys and chickens with the cone before and had it work great, but the ducks we have are just too large...

Comb and legs blackening or dirty

She has access to a layer feed (not sure what %), though she prefers a general mixed flock kind of feed. Depends on what we have. She also eats from the garden, kitchen scraps/leftovers, and lately she occasionally digs in the compost. From what I can tell, she eats plants in the evenings, bugs...

Comb and legs blackening or dirty

Hi! So this is Ingrid. I've had her for a few months. She used to have a bright red comb/wattle/area around her eyes, and her legs were very yellow when she was younger (we called her ducky). Now it's all looking much darker and blackened. I can't decide if this is disease-related...

    What breed might this be?

I got a new chicken at the market, who supposedly lays green eggs. All other chickens I've purchased from this man seem to be mutts, but I'm curious about this one, anyone have any ideas about what she might be? Her little puffy head feathers are very fun. I don't speak portuguese and the man...

What breed/gender are these 2 new chickens?

yeah, i thought about it but the only other vendor only had very young ones and that's not what i was going for. i'm not his biggest fan, if i do get more i'll be asking my neighbors where they get theirs (as soon as i learn how to say all that in portuguese..)

What breed/gender are these 2 new chickens?

wonderful! mixed breeds sounds right haha. thank you for the age estimate, that's helpful. sounds like they're the same age as my other ones, which is kind of nice.

What breed/gender are these 2 new chickens?

No idea, was kinda hoping someone could tell me. I don't speak any languages in common with the man who has sold me all my chickens, all I know are the words for "hen" and "rooster". edit: yessssssss i am glad they look girly to you!

What breed/gender are these 2 new chickens?

Hi I got 2 more (couldn't resist). I asked for hens and the guy gave me the gray one and then tried to give me a gray one that even I could tell was a cockerel (and I know nothing) so I asked him to put that one back and asked for a black one instead, then he tried to put this gray one back...

    Question about expanding my flock

Thank you for the advice. I free-range them all day, so if I had another coop I think integration could be okay, although I think confining the new chickens to a smaller area at first might be good (even aside from quarantine). I might rehome the rooster (cockerel I guess), or eat him (I'm not...

    Question about expanding my flock

I'm new and I don't know anything but! I have 2 chickens currently (a male and I believe a female, I learned from posting them here that it was a male so let me know if that second one looks male-ish please). As I understand it, that's not a great ratio for her, there should be more females. I...

We went to get one kitten...

oh koji looks just like my friend's part ragdoll cats (found in a box so we're just guessing)! ragdolls are so fun if they inherited that 'easy to handle' thing, my friend's ragdolls like to be held like a baby. they say it's always best to get 2 at a time so they can play with each other...
