Yes, I stripped and treated the coop multiple times with both permetherin spray and dust, all corners, roosts, nest boxes, and cracks/crevices thoroughly treated.
PO is per os, by mouth, not sure why anyone would give frontline orally... This last link says nothing about topical/dermal application in chickens. I tend to not want to use chemicals on my chickens at all however I've had a severe northern fowl mite problem in my main coop and everything...
YES actually, I have gotten 27 as of today, well, yesterday now... I was going to start them, but then was told to hold off because I can fit 34 in with the right arrangement in my Brinsea Eco 20, so I'm holding out a few more days. Most I could squeeze in there last year was 27, so we'll see...
Another fellow Wisconsin-ite
I've been debating about filling my bator as well. My BLRWs just started laying last week and I've been hoarding the eggs, waiting to see if I have enough to make it worth starting it up. I have 13 so far, hoping to get to 20 before Monday, we'll see about their...
Well, I ended up butchering them all, I am VERY pleased with how they finished out at 12 weeks. Decided I didn't want to feed them thru the winter, they have a piggy appetite like the cornish, maybe not quite as bad, but bad enough I wouldn't want to winter them over.
Oops, forgot a few of the blue pullets.
I feel like I have a decent start at least. My grand scheme is to put the black cockerel with 2 of the 3 splash pullets and really cull heavily, I know the blue supposedly gets washed out if using splash for breeding, so I'd only choose to keep...
7 months and my BLRW's are starting to look promising. There are some culls in there, but what won't make for good breeders will still make for pretty layers. Pardon, there is a little molting going on. These girls just started laying so I'm kinda chomping at the bit, having thoughts of...
Theoretically if he bought birds at a sale in WI, there would be paperwork to go with them, as sellers at auction/swap are not permitted to sell without the proper paperwork (test papers, Wisconsin Tested Flock certification, etc) which must be shown at the gate. The rest would depend on...
Thanks QueenMisha, IF I decide to keep a few pullets and a cockerel I will be keeping them separate from my main flock but I can understand how they might squish a smaller sized hen if the cockerels are this big at only 10 weeks. Good to know that the hens still produced good sized birds when...
I got several freedom rangers to try this year instead of cornishX. They are 10wks now and I am planning on butchering most in about 2 weeks. I have a few questions, those of you who raise them, do you restrict free ranging to increase weight gain the last couple weeks? Most of the cockerels are...
There are some bacterial infections that will continue to be an issue for the life of the chicken/infected flock even after antibiotic treatment and apparent recovery. They will be carriers for life and will infect any new birds you bring in, it also passes vertically (from hen to chick thru...
Sorry I have been absent for 9 months on this one. I decided to get some cornish x and Freedom Rangers this year, all cornish x have been butchered but the freedom rangers are about 8 weeks and should be ready by mid to late Oct. I'm thinking I will keep a few of the pullets and possibly a...
Here is the direct link to the proposed standard. The only thing that says "bay" is the eye color should be a reddish bay. http://www.foleyswaterfowl.com/uploads/4/8/6/0/48608711/newblrwstandard.pdf
