    Poorly Hen

Just had a good look again. Crop seems ok and she’s showing interest in food. She’s lost a lot of feathers on her breast and down to her vent but other girls don’t seem to be guilty of pecking. Hee vent area is a bit red and hot so am thinking infection or egg bound? Some more photos attached

    Poorly Hen

She’s showing some interest in food but not eating much and her comb is floppy. Spends a lot of her day puffed up in the corner of the run but does move around a bit and I found her on op of the nest box yesterday so she is still agile. I’ll check her crop and poop this morning. They have a...

    Poorly Hen

Hello I have a 3 year old hen who is a little off colour. She's walking around the coop but fluffed up and not eating. I've checked for the obvious things - crop, vent, mites etc and no obvious signs of anything wrong there. She hasn't laid for about a week now. Someone suggested a broad...

    No Eggs!

Thanks for that. I haven’t found a nest and they were kept in for a few days last week but no change. Someone has suggested I shut them up in the dark for 24 hours with food, water and ventilation. I’ll try the high protein feed - thanks

    No Eggs!

I have five hens 2 and a half years old. Two chestnut rangers, 1 goldline, 1 speckeldy and a bluebell. We are averaging about one egg a day and can’t work out why. They are healthy, free ranging , not moulting or broody, diet of layers pellets and some veggie kitchen scraps. Coop and run are...

    Non-laying chicken

It looks like we've found the answer and today Bluebell laid her first egg in about 8 weeks. Lice ! Because she's so shy and hates being picked up, she's the one who we tend to leave alone so we don't stress her too much. But she had them. So a mega-claim of the coop and nest box, a liberal...

    Non-laying chicken

She isn’t molting at the moment and is the most beautiful of our 5 hens showing no signs of molt- all very baffling. I do think she’s a bit stressed just by us being nearby and has taken to flapping her Wings if we get to close. But happy to come near you on her own terms! Maybe just a contrary...

    Non-laying chicken

Nothing obvious. HA we haven’t found anything. Have checked the shrubbery and under the hedges but so far nothing. When the weather cools down I’ll keep them in the coop and see what happens

    Non-laying chicken

Hi - we are new to the forum and would welcome any advice why our healthy, beautiful Bluebell hybrid has stopped laying. This has been going on for about 6 weeks now. She's 18 months old and isn't egg bound nor appears to be broody. She's free ranging but is our shy, nervous girl who hates to...
